Straight from a mathlete....

Post#1 » by Diggler » Sat Jan 16, 2010 2:07 pm

If you're bored, here's a mathlete's (lol) take on our team.

http://waynewinston.com/wordpress/?p=364

According to his math:

1) K Love and Gomes are our best players
2) Hollins and Pavlovic are our worst players
3) Sessions is much better than Flynn

IDK. Any analysis that says Gomes is the second-best player on the team seems flawed to me.

This is the guy that used to work for the Mavs, right? Didn't his system have Foye and Bassy in the top 20 for most valuable players last year? Or had he left the Mavs by then?

Looking at his tables gave me a season-ending brain fracture. Sigma, zScore... Either he's just making stuff up or he's been blessed with some incredible mathletic ability.

oddly enough i got a degree in femistry my sophmore year of college. my intimate knowledge of making girls swoon is second to none! math team was also way harder than any basketball or football game i've ever played, takes way more preperation both physical and menatally, I even broke a finger at a Math meet in Bemiji one year when a monitor fell on me, in addition to my former girlfriend breaking my thumb the next year, she was also a Mathlete.

lol I didn't even know there was such a thing. I'm just envisioning a mathlete pick up line:

girl: so what do you do for a living?

mathlete: during the day I work with imaginary numbers but at nite I like to work with Pi.

hey whats your sine?
thats a big calculator you have there
doyou think you could help me intigrate this?
you've got more curves than a triple integral
how about you come over to my house so you can help me solve for my variable
lets get together to see what our common denominator is
i'm not being obtuse, but you're acute girl
I'll take you to your limit if you show me your end behavior
wish i were an integral, so i could be the space under your curves

Reminds me of an episode of Sliders. Quinn and company went to this dimension where being smart was like the coolest thing you could be and all the major celebrity's were scientist and crap. Anyway, they had this sport where it was a mix of basketball, a live action board game, and math/other knowledge. You would get the ball, have to solve some equation and then make a play before the other team could lock you down. Quinn's double was pretty much the Michael Jordan of the sport, he was in college but he was already a huge star. He was billboards, commercials, everything .They had "Just think it!" posters and all of that. Pretty entertaining.

So the "Mathlete" took +/- by itself and declared who was good and who wasn't based on that alone?
Sigh
And yes, I did read the blog. It should have said "these are the lineups that play the best together" instead of "these are the best players".

Those first seasons are great, tongue-in-cheek social commentary.

Sad what it turned into.

I need to make more classic sci-fi references. For instance, almost any Quantum Leap episode is worth mentioning.

Yea, Sliders was really fun for like what. the first 3 seasons? Then it all went waaaay down hill. It had a great premise and some really great episodes but i fell the hell off. At least the Crying Man stayed around, the only thing that got me through the 5th season. I couldn't stand Mallory.

first off... the crying man aint got nothing on me...

secondly, Sliders season 1 is on netflix instant watch. i've been watching it for the last couple days now, that show has actually aged pretty well compared to quantum leap.
