Halfway Point - Can the Jazz win 50 games?

Post#1 » by dingojazz » Mon Jan 18, 2010 11:49 pm

41 games in, inconsistent play, a lot of potential and a 23-18 record. The remaining 41 games the Jazz would need to go 27-14 to win 50. I feel that 50 wins won't win the division, but gives you a chance at round 1 homecourt.

The remaining schedule includes 22 away games and 19 home games. Also, it includes 8 back to backs. I feel the low for this team is 45 wins (hello 8 seed and Lakers in round 1) which would be a 22-19 second half. The high is 52-30, 29-12 second half and possilbe 3 or 4 seed.

Obviously, a lot depends on what if anything happens at the trade deadline. Just thought I'd open up the discussion since half the games are in the books.

Just for kicks, here is the remaining schedule...

If the Jazz keep up the defense they have played the last 10-15 games I really feel they can get to 55 wins. In the last 10 games Utah is #4 (was higher before the Nuggets game) in point differential and opponent points per game, and #8 in opponent FG%. (These stats are according to nba.com) Do I think they will do that? No. They'll end up losing to the likes of Minnesota and Golden State without fail and blow some big leads. Realistically they'll be lucky to get to 50 wins.

We will go 47-35. We will finish out the season 9-13 on the road and 15-4 at home.

Our remaining schedule is a lot easier than I thought. I just hope that we either go on a tear and get the 5th or an even higher seed or just miss the playoffs completely and get 2 picks in the draft next year.

Im a very, very optimistic Jazz fan. I think the team will win more than 50 games. I'm beginning to think that this team can finally start putting down the sub .500 teams that we should be putting down. with a couple of games winning vs conference rivals, i say yes.

my final prediction is 52-30. Again, im very, very optimistic.

The Jazz have a very good chance of winning 27 games (50 wins) or more the rest of the way. For one I look at SOS so far this year and the Jazz have had one of the hardest schedules; and have a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way. Now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with the roadies against inferior teams. In comparison to lasts years brutal schedule to end the season this year should present the opportunity for the Jazz to finish strong.

This year I think the Jazz have started to figure it out defensively (minus the Denver game) and look like the may finish top 10 in defensive efficiency. Their offense is worse than it's been in the last couple years but I think the main reason is their rebounding. The Jazz have always been a top rebounding team, especially offensive. Also their rebounding differential is lower than what we're used to seeing. If the Jazz can get pick it up on the boards that will increase their possessions and ultimately bring the offensive game up.

This team is playing well at the moment, they've won some big games and are starting to play with an attitude, personally I thought the Jazz fought hard against the Nuggets just didn't have enough to stop Melo (and Denver shot 50 free throws). Going down the stretch, as an optimistic Jazz fan I see them beating inferior teams from both conferences and competing with the elite. This team has shown it can beat anyone, they just have to avoid any mental letdowns. If the Jazz can finally win some road games they will have a great chance to get over 50 wins (and hopefully HCA).

I'm counting on another Deron all-star snub to propel the Jazz to right around the 50 win range!

Korver has provided a boost off the bench. Boozer and the team seem to be in harmony. Distracton of the trade deadline may cost them a win or two. For some reason, the Jazz have loss at home to some pathetic teams. Jazz cannot afford to lose another home game all season!!!!!

So the answer is who knows with this inconsistent bunch. I really think it depends on Deron who has had, in my opinion, a worse year than last year. He has played extremely poor defense and been turnover prone. If he ups his game, which I think he will, then the Jazz probably win anywhere from 48-52 games. Likely finishing 5-6th seed which means out round 2 versus the Lakers.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Maybe this is a lame attempt to bring a thread I started back to the top of the boards, but it might be cool to track the 2nd half. After a 3-0 start and the way we're playing, suddenly 50 plus wins seems very attainable.

6-0 So far second half. I'd take 3-1 in the remaining 4 before the all star break, though 4-0 is extremely possible. At the all star break, we will have played 29 home games and only 22 away. Post All Star Break will be 19 away and 12 home. 11 of those 19 road games will be against playoff contending teams, 8 will not.

I had them pegged for 55 wins at the break. They might get a few more if they keep up the hot play. 23 more wins is definitely within the realm of possibility at this rate, putting us at 58.

Lawl...let's not get carried away. I would be ecstatic if we could get to 55 wins, which would take a 20-8 finish, on par with a 59 win team.

Crazy how much has changed. In my original post I thought the best possible finish was 52-30. 13-1 Record later to start the second half, things have changed a bit. 19-8 from this point on would get us to 55 wins.
