The Bad:
There's plenty of bad to go around. Stuckey had 14 points at the half, but finished with just 22 on 8-26 shooting. Chucky Atkins finished 1-5 shooting and all shots seemed to come at probably the worst time for him to take shots. For example, with the Pistons trailing early in the fourth and making a mini-run, he took an outlet pass from Stuckey, dribbled the floor, and quickly pulled up for a three with no Pistons under the basket to potentially rebound. He was also minus-15 -- just a point ahead of Charlie Villanueva's minus-16.

Wilcox was 0-4 before injuring his back causing him to miss the entire 2nd half, adding to the team's injury woes.

The team as a whole had just 10 assists and zero three-pointers today. They averaged 22 assists and seven threes per game during the three game winning streak.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Unsung Hero:
Austin Daye. He got the nod in the starting lineup in place of the sick Hamilton and did a job well done. He was 7-14 shooting, six of those misses coming from downtown, finishing with 16 points and 6 rebounds in 32 minutes. He was also a team-high plus-7 with Ben Wallace, which has to say something, right?

The Takeaway:
When the Pistons don't move the ball around to create better looks and lose the 3-point battle 10-0, they aren't going to win very many games, if any at all. This was a winnable game, even without four of their key players, but the offense resorted to standing around and waiting until the shot clock forced them to shoot. They then let the Knicks pick them apart when Ben Wallace wasn't on the floor. The Pistons finish the month with six straight at home. They start that stretch with the somewhat struggling Celtics on Wednesday. Make or break time.

Setback For Pierce
When healthy, the Boston Celtics have been the top team in the Eastern Conference this season. Unfortunately, they haven't been healthy a whole lot. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rasheed Wallace, Marquis Daniels, and now Paul Pierce have all spent stretches of games on the injured list, and the injuries are starting to take a toll on Boston's record. The Celtics have lost six of their last ten games going into today's contest with the Dallas Mavericks, and it looks like they'll be without two of their aging stars as they go into battle. Julian Benbow of the Boston Globe reports:

Just as he was starting to improve after undergoing two surgeries and missing four games because of a knee infection, Paul Pierce collided with Shelden Williams at the end of practice yesterday, banging his knee in the spot where he had the procedures. The Celtics captain left the court to have the knee wrapped in ice. Since returning to the lineup Jan. 6 against Miami, Pierce has played 40 or more minutes four times in six games. He's averaged 19.5 points this month. "It's just amazing the luck right now with things like that,'' said coach Doc Rivers. "That's why he was so upset. He said, 'Man, that's right on the spot that was starting to feel better.'

Kevin Garnett will miss tonight's game for sure, meaning the Celtics could be without two of their stars, though Rasheed Wallace is expected to return to the lineup tonight. Ultimately, the Celtics have taken a calculated risk that a group of older stars can all be healthy when it counts and help the team win another championship. That risk paid huge dividends when they won a championship two seasons ago, but not it appears the team may be on the downside of that risk. Injuries, rather than wins, may turn out to be the big story for Boston this season.

Detroit Pistons @ New York Knicks: As sometimes happens, a winning streak is following a long losing streak for the Pistons. They just needed to get over the hump, and have now won three straight. A win tonight would tie them with the Knicks in the loss column, giving them a share of 10th in the East. Ben Gordon, Tayshaun Prince and Will Bynum are all like to miss the game; only Eddy Curry is out for the Knicks.

Mike in Det:
Hey Bill, What about Devin Harris for Gordon or Rip. Det needs a true point guard. Also I think Charle V needs to be Traded who would be willing to give anything for him?

Bill Ingram:
I don't know who would take Charlie with that fresh contract . . .they had to know he didn't defend when they signed him, right? I like Rodney Stuckey. He's not as good as we thought he might be when they traded Chauncey, but he stays healthy . . .which is more than Devin seems to be able to do.

Pistons For Sale? Could the Detroit Pistons be on the way out of the Davidson family? According to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News the answer is yes. Karen Davidson, who inherited the Pistons and Palace Sports Entertainment from her late husband, William, is reportedly thinking about selling them both. The process is in the very early, fact finding stage according to McCosky, with his sources indicating there has been a conversation with NBA commissioner David Stern to see just how one goes about selling the team. Should Davidson decide to sell the Pistons, there may not exactly be a plethora of buyers. Detroit is still trying to recover from the economic downturn and no longer fills The Palace every night, which is quite a trend change from their long string of consecutive sellouts that ended last year.

Should Davidson decide to sell the Pistons, there may not exactly be a plethora of buyers. Detroit is still trying to recover from the economic downturn and no longer fills The Palace every night, which is quite a trend change from their long string of consecutive sellouts that ended last year. Further complicating the issue is the Charlotte Bobcats are also looking for a new owner. Supposedly the bidding came down to groups led by Michael Jordan and George Postolos, but no sale has been announced. The Washington Wizards, after the death of owner Abe Pollin, are expected to be sold to Ted Leonsis. The Golden State Warriors, should they go up for sale, are supposedly being drooled over by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. The New Jersey Nets were just sold to Mikhail Prokhorov (pending league approval, which is expected). Michael Heisley explored selling the Memphis Grizzlies last year but found the market simply didn't exist, and has since committed to a three-year plan to find success in Memphis (and so far, so good). There were rumors the Miami HEAT could be for sale, but owner Mickey Arison wants to turn it over to his kids – it's the minority investors would love to cash out, but in a better market.

The Sacramento Kings look like they have finally gotten over the hump with regards to a new stadium and were never really being rumored as being for sale (more talk of moving if anything), and the New Orleans Hornets are a name that always comes up when selling franchises is discussed. What are we getting at here? The people (or groups of people) that can spend the $350-400 million average price to buy a NBA franchise aren't exactly plentiful, and there seems to be other franchises available at this moment. The Pistons were actually valued by Forbes at $479 million in the most recent set of their annual valuations, the fourth-most expensive franchise in the league.Selling the franchise may be no small feat itself, because finding a buyer with that much to spend who wants to buy a NBA franchise isn't going to be easy.

Six Suns were in double figures led by Steve Nash with 22 points and 12 assists. Robin Lopez had a career-high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, and Grant Hill scored 16.
