How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
Wolves fan here, just wondering how our boy is doing. I thought he'd be a perfect fit as a combo guard off the bench for you. Even though the team results could be better, how's Foye done? Happy with the trade still?

Probably not to well. Our medical staff is performing amputations on him as we speak.

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
He's wounded with an ankle injury today. Sound familiar? He's been a nice fit next to Gil at times, but has had to play as our primary back-up at Point, which as you know is not his best strength, he occasionally goes into Foye-against-the-World mode.
There are signs of progress though under Flip, who y'all know, is pretty good at developing a PG, but we haven't been at full strength ever so there's n telling what this team's true ideal chemistry mix will be. Wait and see has been our watchword for a few years now, now Foye is an added piece to that.
Still, I'm thinking it's too bad we didn't extend him at a reasonable price, I don't guess they'd better afford him as a free agent and it indicates to me that the team thinks maybe they can only afford to keep one of Miller or Foye, which is a shame.

He's pretty much exactly what I expected. He's had some great games, some bad games. His assists are a bit down and his three point percentage is a bit up, but otherwise, he's the same player he has been since he entered the league. All in all, I'd say he looks like a perfectly competent 25 MPG backup combo guard.

Would have been giddy to get your 18th pick out of the trade, but oh-well. Foye is ok, I certainly would keep him over Young, James, & Stevenson. Foye's defense is pretty bad and he's not much of a creator out there, but I think he will improve with us during the season.
Since Foye & Miller will be FA's next season, it remains to be seen if the whole deal was just to clear cap-space. However I see Miller & Foye getting offers from us if we can unload Mike James and Young.

His defense sucks.
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

His defense is awful; he forces alot of his attempts; and he's gone after this season (along with our highest pick in the draft since Kwame Brown). What's not to love?

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
I'm pretty sure it wasn't just to clear cap space. Foye played pretty well (not all-star well, but certainly starter well) for us. But he was being asked to be our #2 scorer and he's more like a #3 or 4. Not his fault we didn't have a #2 or #3. Clearly, though, he's a young guy who should be an asset over the next 6 years or so, so I think the Wiz made this deal thinking to resign him. He's better short term and chances are he's equal long term to whoever you would have drafted. Well...Rubio aside anyway, that's a home run or a strike out kind of pick.closg00 wrote:Narf wrote:Wolves fan here, just wondering how our boy is doing. Sorry to hear about the ankle. He had the big injury, but I wasn't ready to label him injury prone just yet. Maybe that'll change.
Either way I'll still be rooting for you guys this year.

From what I watched in the Suns game, his defense was alright on Steve Nash and Leandro Barbosa. Of course, he really can't do much to slow down Dwayne Wade, then again who can.

Despite the impression left by others here, the ankles not serious actually. He said he would be back next week for Cleveland, so that would have him missing a grand total of two games (give or take 7 minutes).
I suppose the thing is that, even with hindsight, a great deal of the talent that would have been there for us at five would in be point guards. Other than maybe Curry, not much really fit, so I think the trade could work out well for us still.
But a lot is to be determined when the team comes back healthy over the next week.
Thanks for checking up and best of luck!

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
Gotta disagree that his defense has been horrible. Yea, he has been beat a few times, mostly by good players making good moves, but he does a pretty solid job of staying in front of his man. Is too small to guard most SGs, but Gil isn't that bad at it, and I think Foye has done a very solid job in covering PGs.
I am very happy with how he has played so far this year, especially considering no AJ and how Gil and Caron have struggled. The offense has run better at time with him at point than Gil.
When[if?] we get the cavalry back, I think were all going to be very happy with him. I think he will be able to smoothly transition from PG to SG within a game, hit threes, get into the lane at times, and I can easily envision him developing good chemistry with Antawn and Blatche.

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
Foye's shown that he's money with his feet set. Might be the best three point shooter on the team, considering Gil's taking his game inside and Miller's reluctant to shoot. I like Foye with Gil. I like Foye getting the ball to Javale. When he and McGee are on the floor together that play works.
Negatives are that Foye's not a playmaker, tends to force some shots, isn't a good defender.
He's certainly a Wizard now, judging by his injury.
I'm in a wait-and-see how the year turns out with Foye. Too early to say how I feel about him overall.

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
He's better than I thought at the 2. He was definitely miscast as a 1 at Minny. He's got pretty much all the offensive tools you want at the 2 - shoots with range, runs well, finishes well, can take his man off the dribble, passes adequately, can catch and shoot or shoot off the dribble, and handles well. I just wish he was a little bigger - or had a PG mentality - neither's going to happen. He can't guard the DWade's of the world, but who can?

Yea I wish he were bigger too. But using him in a Ben Gordon role as opposed to playing him at the one would probably be the route to go.

There he is. I knew he'd show up for you guys at some point
Rubio is looking fantastic in Euroleague as well, even if he is a headache to get over. And you cut salary next year for a bench PF (Songalia) which gives you salary to resign him and Hay with. All in all the trade is looking good for both teams....although with Agent Zero armed and not very dangerous it kind of throws a kink in your plans for a few years. What an albatross that contract has become

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
Basically the trade was bad for us. I mean, it was pretty darn bad all around.
However, that's not Foye's fault and fair number of us would like to keep him going forward. I think he'll be a good developmental chaperon and he's suddenly doing a pretty good job of running the point.
He's got a real good attitude; a true professional athlete.
You probably already saw it, but we have this thread based on recent developments...

The next step is to sign Telfair n' Mark Madsen in the off season and change our name to 'Sea Dogs' (long story).
We'll have to see how things go with Agent Gil. The franchise is being sold and that might well be complete in the next few days, so there are a lot of unknowns there. It could be that the whole thing is reconciled.
And anyway, we're about to be chock full of rookie deals, so I think the cap situation should be reasonable overall.
Thanks for stopping by

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
Thanks mate, I just saw that thread.
A couple of pro-Foye points I'll make, outside of yours (which I pretty much agree with). Foye replaces Arenas with a younger, higher character guy with less talent. That gives you some options in trades that you didn't have before.
Second, whether you get a starting PG or not Foye has value. If you win the lotto and get Wall, Foye would be perfect as a 6th man off the bench. If you end up with a SG/SF type like Xavier Henry, Foye is a good young stopgap. Either way he's useful going forward.
And like I said, he actually costs the same as Songalia next year. So you aren't losing any cap space even if you resign him.
And Arenas is tradeable, there is hope. New Orleans is over the cap, for instance, and has bad contracts to trade for bad contracts. This was a post of mine from another forum:

Okafor, Peja, West, James Posey, Mo Peterson, Julian Wright
for
Antoine Jamison , Brendan Haywood, Deshawn Stevens, Fabrico Oberto, and Agent Zero (he's armed, but not very dangerous)
Washington dumps Agent Zero and Antoine Jamison's long term contracts and actually gets talent back in return. Washington had about 55 million in cap next year without resigning Haywood, and they were not going to win with that team even if they did resign him. Peja and Peterson's expiring (along with cap space in 2011) gives them the ability to trade for a good player in 2010 or simple let them expire for 2011. Posey's contract sucks, but that's the price they pay for Agent Zero's dump off. Okafor is still young and West is only 29, which gives them a few years to improve the back court and "gel" while Wright is a young prospect. They give JaVale more minutes as a true C, Okafor at C/PF, and West at PF. All in all an upgraded front court for the next 4 years as Haywood and Jamison age.
New Orleans takes on a headache in order to save about 4.5 million this year and 15 million next year. They tell their fans it's taking a gamble to add more talent to the team because they want to win a championship, and if Ron Artest deserved a second chance then so does Gilbert Arenas. This really is blown out of proportion but "we've had a talk with" agent zero and he is willing to "jump through hoops to play here" etc., etc.
Agent Zero agrees to be on his best behavior for at LEAST a year and understands that he's the 2nd PG on the team and will have some of his minutes cut....but a 2 guard set of CP3 and Arenas will be pretty lethal if he plays his roll as super-combo guard. The Ginobli of New Orleans, if you will. New Orleans saves so much money they give Haywood a nice 3 year, $22.5 mil contract (cutting their cost savings next year in half, but still under the luxury tax both years) and rolls with a good defensive center, a good offensive PF, and a talented combo guard.

Re: How's 4th quarter Foye doing?
I almost forgot. Since Arenas is suspended he's instant savings this year as well. That's pretty important for a team like New Orleans looking to cut costs to get under the luxury tax (and save money as well, quite frankly).
Anyway I'm off. Have a good one.

As a starter he has been posting some very very solid numbers.
In the 4th, he nails his FTs. Just what you need from your PG.
Flip is working a lot with him on decision making and it seems to be helping.
Seems like a solid guy also.
