Bastian, via MLBTR.

Seems a little high considering his literally up and down year, but he did pitch well while he was actually on the Blue Jays.

He was under contract for $900k last year, and in arbitration you're pretty much guaranteed some kind of a raise. Kinda glad that they agreed pre-arb, just because his case might have gotten pretty ugly...the Jays arguing that he didn't deserve a large raise owing to his yo-yo act from Las Vegas to Toronto, and Accardo getting extremely pissed off because he didn't deserve to be treated in that fashion.

I can't see what self-respecting player would re-sign with a team that treated him the way the Jays did last year, even with a managment change this guy is an pushover if they signed him for any other reason than to trade him.

Because he has no option. MLB's free agency system guarantees that a player will be controlled by the team through their first six years of major league service, unless the team chooses to non-tender them. Accardo has roughly 4 years of service and zero leverage; his options were to a) re-sign a one-year deal with the Jays before arbitration, b) re-sign a one-year deal after arbitration, or c) retire from baseball. Self-respect or lack thereof doesn't come into play.
