Larry Hughes?

Post#1 » by Prospect Dong » Tue Jan 19, 2010 1:19 pm

I'd be tempted to pick him up if he gets bought out. I don't like his lack of an outside shot, but he's playoff tested, can score and defend and could back up the 1, 2 and maybe even the 3 for short stretches.

I'd certainly rather take a flyer on him than give up a first for someone like Dorrel Wright.

The Grizz need depth though - the sooner the better. Need a vet or two on board that can learn the system asap.

Larry Hughes is a pretty good defender, who at the veteran minimum would be a steal if he agreed to play for the Grizz.

The willingness to part with one of the potential first rounders is probably because the Grizz really don't need to get any younger and the roster spot could be filled with a veteran at a cheaper price and shorter deal.

He wants playing time and shots.

So no go.

I agree. Right now you don't mess with the starters but need to find a role player that is used to coming off the bench and knows what is expected of him. Larry Hughes is a good player but I can't see him wanting to sign with Memphis knowing he will be in the same situation as he is with the Knicks.

But given the right sixth man that can play both small forward and shooting guard, there would be decent playing time and a solid role. I would go so far as to say that if the Grizzlies could find that solid player Hollins might be confident enough to swing Mayo to the point at times for matchup purposes, thus giving that player more minutes.

But right now he's not confident in who they have behind Mayo. A healthy Raja Bell or Kelenna Azuibuke would have been nice.

JCN would be the perfect fit for that team right now. scoring and humble. not asking for playing time or too much shots. his D wasnt very good but he could help.

There's a solid 30 mpg to be had behind Conley and Mayo. I don't think Hughes is good enough to warrant all of that, but he'd be our best option, and our only proven scorer off the bench. I think might be the sort of role he'd happily take on a good team, even if he wasn't starting - the guy's never struck me as an Iverson type, but I'd agree that you'd want to have a good talk to him before picking him up, to make sure he was on the same page as to his projected role.

Ole Allen Iverson has been living in the past selfish bum LOL.

But seriously, I can't see whoever the Grizzlies are targeting to get more than 15 MPG off the bench. I figure Rudy and O.J. both get at least 35 MPG and Conley gets his 30 or so MPG. I think Tinsley has earned the back up PG role at about 12-15 MPG. Sam Old should get his 10-15 MPG. That doesn't leave much playing time. Maybe 10-15 at the most I think.

That's all assuming everyone stays healthy - and even then I'd happily trim Gay and Mayo's minutes a little down the stretch, and Tinsley's too for that matter.

Odds are we don't get anyone who's worth more than 15mpg without giving up a pick, and I'm cool with that, but the minutes are there for a good enough bench player, particularly one who can play multiple positions.

Larry Bruise is a joke. His relationship with the last 3 teams he's been on has soured: Cleveland, Chicago and New York now.

He thinks he's better than he really is. Broke jump shot and injury prone. Yeah he has experience and versatility, but he's a cancer. Don't need him around with the young guys (though I said the same thing about Z-Bo).
