Why do you guys want to trade Jefferson?

Post#1 » by bdownbear » Fri Jan 15, 2010 5:13 pm

Everytime I'm reading the trade thread....On every topic involving Minnesota, its always Jefferson involved as the center piece on the trade. I always thought he was a solid player.....Is it his injuries from the past that slowed him down?...Just curious....

Off topic.....What would it take to get Jefferson to the Sixers? You can take any of our players except Holiday, and Speights.

I don't think anyone is desperate to trade Jefferson. There was a rumor last week on yahoo that Kahn approached Bird about a Jefferson-for-Granger swap, which IND declined. However, both teams have said that this was untrue.

We recognize Jefferson is an elite scorer and rebounder, with perhaps the best low-post game in the league. He also just turned 25 last week, and he works very hard, so there's no telling how good he'll end up. He's averaged 20-11 over the past three years .. when he's been 21-24 years old! There are some concerns that Jefferson and Love will struggle together defensively, and I think this feeds rumors.

I guess I'll slide this in here:

Al Jefferson is #12 on Chad Ford's list of players most likely to be moved.

Jefferson isn't being shopped but Kahn is probably listening to offers. And any deal with Philly would start with at least Iggy.

If PHI was going to take something off the board, I'd have thought it would be your unprotected 2010 1st.

unprotected 1st for sure, but I'm sure they'd at least demand top 1 protection, can't imagine anybody giving up a good chance at John Wall

There are people who want to trade him but I'm not one of them. There aer people who think Love and Al can't work (some already say it was a failed experiment) and I'm not one of them. Yea they are losing, but look at the numbers they are putting up. Their defense hasn't be stellar but its way better than any of our guys are doing on the perimeter.

Look at the numbers those two are putting up. You give Al and Love some good players at the 1,2, and 3 and they will win some games. It's incredibly hard to get wins in this league when your bigman is the only one who can score on a consistent basis. They need that guard or wing player that can get his shot off anytime and demand attention.

This is very true.

I'm not totally opposed to a Jefferson deal for a combination of youth (SG/SF/C) on cheapish contract(s) plus expiring contracts. This might not be in the best interest of the team, but part of me selfishly wants the entertainment value in seeing what Kahn will do with $20 mil in cap space at his disposal.

As a kind of side note, Philly is going to be an interesting team to watch come draft time. They seem loaded at SF and PF and need a SG. Right now they are looking at probably the third pick and will likely miss out on Wall and Turner. That leaves 5 of the next 6 picks as SFs or PFs. Would they pick Aldrich or reach for Henry or would they trade their pick? I think there is a decent chance that pick could be in play. Not sure if Minny has the resources to get it, though.

I think the simple answer to this is that the team isn't. Kahn has come out and said he's not shopping him. It's just that rumour that came up and now everyone runs with it.
