Jays ink last 5 arbitration-eligible players

The Toronto Blue Jays avoided arbitration with all five of their eligible players ahead of a self-imposed deadline set by GM Alex Anthopoulos and added two more players to their growing spring roster on a busy Tuesday.

Closer Jason Frasor ($2.65 million US), lefty Brian Tallet ($2 million) and right-handed relievers Shawn Camp ($1.15 million), Jeremy Accardo ($1.08 million) and Casey Janssen ($700,000) each agreed to a one-year deal.

Anthopoulos had said that he would take players to a hearing if they didn't sign before Tuesday night's deadline for exchanging arbitration figures.

The Blue Jays hadn't been to a hearing since taking Bill Risley in 1997 and Anthopoulos was set to end that streak without prompt settlement of negotiations he feels often drag far too long.

Blue Jays also signed outfielder Jeremy Reed and right-hander Steven Register to minor-league contracts with an invitation to spring training.

$2m for Tallet? That's a pretty spicy meatball.

Solid relief arms will take pressure of your young starters, so yes, Accardo is a need.

yes, absolutely solid relief arms are a need.. i was more or less referring to Accardo in particular as "need" for this organization.

despite how he was treated last year, Accardo is a solid relief arm.
