Trade Idea with Was.: Biggest Blockbuster EVER
*Washington's roster is really decent for the most part. A lot of good contracts expiring within 2 years. But Arenas stands out as one horrible contract.
*Imagine if they wanted so badly to get out of the Arenas situation and contract, that they gave Jamison and Butler in a package to a team willing to take it on?
This trade works in the accurate ESPN NBA trade machine:
- Ray Allen, Glen Davis, Eddie House, Scalabrine, Giddens, TA, and 1 future pick
FOR - Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, and Gilbert Arenas
Assume that Arenas is done for the near future. And assume that the pick is thrown in so that Washington buys out Allen. And imagine we re-sign Ray.
Look at this: same starting 5 with Ray Allen, PLUS Butler, Jamison, Sheed and Daniels. That'd have to be the best bench ever, with a vet to play some minutes at the 1.
Or if we don't get Ray back, we can start Butler. We'd still have to get a cheap vet or two (or suit up Lue) for the bench. Maybe Arenas ends up playing for us as well.

Re: Trade Idea with Was.: Biggest Blockbuster EVER
Washington could do something like this (give 2 of their big 3) to take off the $15M+ contract of Arenas'.
It's not entirely unfeasible. It saves Washington so much money and lets them start from scratch.
PG: Rondo, vet signing
SG: Butler, Daniels
SF: Pierce
PF: Garnett, Jamison
C: Perkins, Sheed
Roster full of versatile players. Butler at the 2 and 3. Jamison at the 3 and 4. Garnett at the 4 with spot minutes at the 3 and 5 as duty calls. Sheed at the 5 and 4.
If we throw in a draft pick or two to get them to wave Ray Allen:
PG: Rondo, vet signing
SG: Allen, Daniels
SF: Pierce, Butler
PF: Garnett, Jamison
C: Perkins, Sheed
Why would the Celtics ownership agree to it? Why take on Arenas? Because the cost is worth it if it gives us (not considering Ray Allen) 7 good players (PP, KG, Rondo, Jamison, Butler, Sheed, Perk) for the next two years and helps secure the next two titles. You can add any vet guards and role players to that mix and Danny's really good at filling things out (think: House, Posey, Daniels, Baby, etc.)

Re: Trade Idea with Was.: Biggest Blockbuster EVER
Ok so basically the Wizards are saying the best possible value we can get for three former all stars who are all still very good players is a bunch of scrubs? That's insane. They could get more for Arenas even with all his legal problems than this trade is giving them (since you say they're going to buy out Ray Allen for us). Then with Jamison and Butler? They should at least be getting one young borderline all star (i.e. Monta Ellis) coming back in return. The only type of player from our team that they would even consider giving us all those players for was if you were willing to part ways with Rondo plus Ray Allen and maybe some first round draft picks for when we'll probably be a lottery team again.
They would NEVER buy out Ray Allen. No team is going to do that. Ask on any other team's board if they think their team would buy out Ray Allen if we traded him to them. Good luck finding anyone to agree with that notion. People keep saying it in these Celtics trade threads but it's just ludicrous I'm starting to think they should just be instantly locked if someone says it.

Thanks for your thoughts.
Perhaps it is a ludicrous notion. But that's how much we love Ray Allen.
This is all under the assumption that Washington is desperate, in a corner, wants so badly to get out of Arenas' contract and there is no solution (besides buy-out), but something like this comes along and entices them.

Re: Trade Idea with Was.: Biggest Blockbuster EVER
Keep in mind that I just built this off all the Ray Allen for Butler OR Jamison and someone else swap ideas, that were doing the rounds.
We're just adding more expiring contracts (or as you call them, scrubs) to take Gilbert Arenas off Washington's hands. In return, Washington throws in the other of the two (Butler/Jamison).

can Jamison still play the 3 at all? I wouldnt mind picking him up if he can, especially since it would keep him away from the cavs. which would spell major trouble imo if that goes down.

I doubt the Wizards are going to trade us good players for Ray Allen and trash just to get rid of Arenas' contract.

Re: Trade Idea with Was.: Biggest Blockbuster EVER
This trade would stack us with offensive firepower, like Jamison's Dallas team. More successful are the teams stacked with defensive/rebounding firepower, like a couple of Wallace's Portland teams.
The nice thing about Ray Allen (who I'm for trading) is that his game scales down nicely with reduced minutes and/or shots, and his range allows him to impact the offense without even being near the ball. Jamison and Butler are not that sort of player.

Fun idea. Would not happen in real life because there are too many moving pieces though it would be good for both teams. The Wizards dump a ton of salary and basically start from scratch this summer going after a big name. The Celtics get younger.
