The fact that we have an 18 page discussion on comparing donations makes me think of Jean-Baptiste Clamence, if anyone has read The Fall.

The NBA should allow Rockets to stop paying Tracy McGrady and use that $20 for Haiti.

If what you say is true I'm sure you contribute a lot and good on you, but leave the preaching at the door.
Take the stunner shades off at the door and step up young man. I call you young man out of respect also. Because I beleive that you can make difference here young man. It's up to you though if you would like to. Will you be willing to send down some clothes that you don't use or go to a super market or dollar store and purchase some items to send down to Haiti, or would you like to continue to go back and forth with me?
For some reason young man, I think if you want to you know what the real answer is. Get back to me tomorrow and let me know what your answer is on that. That decision will seperate the man from the child.
That's some hot bull. You called him young man because it implies that he's not your level. Do you even know how old he is?

Re: 1 Million? Seriously?
You know, everyone's knocking the rich for being "too rich" yet every year they pay more in taxes than anyone in the US. Not only that, but they lose a higher percentage of their income.
But it's pretty obvious that they're just cheap and eviiiiiiiiil.
And I love the whole "Why don't we take a percentage of their salaries?" idea. Yeah, I'm sure you all would be gung-ho about it if they did that at your company. And before you get back in the moral high ground about how much NBA players make, the point is that no non-Government based entity should tell you have you can or cannot spend your money. Because if they can do this for a charity, why can't they do it for when the CEO's son needs a new car? Whoops, everyone needs a slight paycut so Jimmy can get that new Cadillac. It's a good cause, after all.
Now you see how dumb that is. I understand if you individually feel a moral obligation to send aid. Good for you. But then to turn around and criticize another organizations decision to send aid, and talk about how they should force their workers to donate? That's just plain stupid, to be honest.

Not that this is relevant, but since YOU brought it up, prove it.

I agree. This is the point. Donate all you want and no one will stop you. Yet you are criticizing others for not doing the same ( act or effort ) . We can understand you are upset due to as you posted, you have family friends etc that are involved in the disaster. However you cannnot impose your will on others. They have their own priorities and if 1M is all they donate, then take it with gratitutde. We don't know that if they donated more, some of their other charitites or projects might get affected by it.

And there you have it. YOU have a more vested interest in this than others do. Stop expecting others to have the same vested interest as you.

Is that your excuse?
Maybee you should step up your game or get out of the conversation. It's not about money, it's about what put in. Go to the local donation center and volunteer an hour a week. Donte $2, send bottled water or a can of corn in. Whatever it is, just do it and make sure you can do the best that you can in it.
Don't try to say my halo fell off Judas, put your time, money, unparishables, extra clothing, where your mouth is.
Don't make excuses young man, just do it. And take that avatar off of a man wearing stunner shades when you are talking to a grown man. It's time to talk business young man. So I challenge you, and I ask you what have you done?
Young man remember you are in a position to help people, you want to bash me fine, I'll take that, shut me up though, donate your time, money, whatever, just try to help out these people young man. This may be able to help you step up to maturity and help. Hell for what you know a a can of corn may keep one of the many orphans left behind alive for an extra day. A 50 cent can of corn man. Think about it before you answer chump.
And here is my next thing. Shut me up! Make me shut up people. Instead of trying to attack me, make me shut up. Do what you can to make me shut up. Make me shut my mouth on your punk ass chumps, who dare question my agenda, knowing majority of you did nothing. YOu don't even have to say what you did. Learn from this comecialisim and join them, Imposible is nothing, Just do it, thats the answer.
Cool it with the personal insults and language. Consider this your last and final warning.
Flash I'm sure you can tell this is a sensitive issue for many right now. You may want to read the last post I made also to the person who I quoted. My appologies for going a bit strong in this topic but I do have a bit more vested into this then a few others do.
Uhh, I think ALL of us know someone or of group of people hurting in more ways than one, whether they be in Africa, Afghanistan, India, or Haiti. I don't think just because you or anyone having a "vested interest" in anything reserves you the right to resort to personal insults.

THIS.
I'm sure we have lots of international posters here so why didn't those from the Philippines whine when their supertyphoon struck? How about Indonesia when that Tsunami hit? Taiwan ( was it earthquake too?) China? etc etc? Those posters didn't B&%#h about how little or no aid from the nba got to them.
You have vested interest and we understand that. However, if those posters from those countries can behave with class, I think you can too.

I have not donated money and have no plans to on the account of what I've heard. 1. the government is crooked as hell there and theres no aid getting to the people. 2. Some people are ruining it for others, they are robbing eachother of food and attacking aid workers.
I rather donate some cans of food. I don't need to donate any money if I don't want to.

I hate to break it to you; but if you are a taxpaying US citizen; you are donating.

Puerto Rico last night held a concert to raise money for the Haiti cause, and we made $3.3 million dollars. I think China should be ashamed a 100x35 mile island raised more than 3 times the money they raised
Oh and our population consists in a little over 4 million people

No one should EVER be "ashamed" when you make a donation. Jeezus.

I made respectable donations to Haiti.
I just wish that they would update us on how donation money has been used. After global billions of US $ in donation i want to see what difference we made, cuz the place still seems unchanged even after injection of so much money. At least send me a picture of a new home built with my name on it, or a acknowledgement htat my money was for medical supplies to save a person's life or something. If they used the mony to buy expensive useless teddy bears or some other non discriontary purchases that were looted the next day, I would be angry.

Derrick Rose, Danilo Gallinari, Pau Gasol, Antawn Jamison, Tyreke Evans, Russell Westbrook among others.

Michael Jordan donated his first season Wizards contact of $1million dollars to 9/11. And this is what the entire NBA and NBPA can match?
I'm not going to lie, Im dissapointed by this. I may not be able to give $1 million bucks, but Im doing what I can to donate the most I can for the people of Haiti.
''Any time you have an opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don't, then you are wasting your time on Earth.'' - Roberto Clemente.
NBA I hope you read those lines and realize there is more that you can do. $1 million is like 10 dollars for me if even that. Come man. Peoples lives are in need here.
As for the people of Realgm if you would like to donate money cool, non parishable food and clothing great also. Please do something to help these people who really need the help.
Why don't you donate a million dollars since you're rollin' like a big shot.
