McHale as a game commentator...

Post#1 » by Cyclical » Tue Jan 19, 2010 3:40 am

...is good.

I want to see him on TV more often. Adds a lot of humor, insight and knowledge, pretty much nullifying Reggie's boring delivery. Good job Kevin.

Agreed.

He's funny without being obnoxious and insightful enough with going off the deep end. Hope he keeps announcing...

You listen to him and you wonder how he was such a bad gm. He certainly seems fine at evaluating a player's skillset, so why keep giving the trnton Hassell's of the world so much money.

He should take over for Tommy. Not donny.

He's like the opposite of SVG and Reggie Miller...In other words not bad at all, actually pretty good.

So, just to clarify... McHale has been working for us this whole time right?

He did well - but I like JVG as a commentator too. As far as being a bad GM - my take is its the finance part McHale wasn't so good at. A big part of being a GM is not just evaluating talent but evaluating talent and forming a cost benefit analysis of such talent. He can obviously spot talent..

His insights are great!! However, the only thing I think he needs to work on is the fact that he talks too fast.

I'd love to see him work for the Celtics when Tommy decides to retire. I just hope he can be as much as a homer as Tommy.

he's funny and has a lot of stories. You love him if you're a Celtic fan but probably don't if you're not. He tends to talk a lot-= sometime stoo much. All in all though he was enjoyable and I thought he was fair and unbiased

yeah he def. had some good stories. I loved the part about counting the number of stitches you gave your opponent towards your point total....I used to like Collins a lot but after a while he starts repeating the same things about the game over and over.

Yeah, he's good. Should TOTALLY take over when Tommy's gone. Why on earth is Donny even being considered for this? McHale's a guy people would actually tune in to listen to, I think. Celtic legend, knows the game, wouldn't be a homer, etc.

yeah he did great. i like SVG a lot too, he's off the cuff and funny if a tad obnoxious. him and mchale would make a great team. reggie is boring and painful.

i'd love to get mchale to replace donny but i suspect mchale doesn't want to make a career out of braodcasting. probably just biding his time to get back into a FO situation.

It would be pretty surprising for him to get another front office job, although you could see how hard it would be to fire and likewise easy to hire him from a personality standpoint. Anyway I'm skeptical that he would work the celtics broadcast, reason being that TNT seems to be grooming him and Webber to take over for Charles and Kenny. Ernie Johnson especially seems sick of Barkley and ready for the change.

I think McHale was very good as a broadcaster. Maybe it's because I love him, but whatever.

And I used to hate Barkley as a player, but I love Barkley as a tv personality. I don't usually watch halftime shows, but I watch the TNT ones because of him.
