While I think Butler can be a very good player, he is not playing well this season. From the games I have watched it seems he has fallen in love with the contested jumper.

Re: The Still Shockingly Sucky Caron Butler Thread.
The busted last second play wasn't the only boneheaded play Butler made last night. With 0.6 left in the third Butler completely blew his defensive assignment and left Barea open for a three (which he subsequently missed, because he sucks).
I don't know where Butler's head is at. He's still a good player but he's not mentally into it, and he wasn't last year either. Maybe he would be a better fit on another team.

Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

Caron and Jamison both still have that mentality they're the big three. Jordan's system really spoiled them and all they want to do he shoot. They want to be the guys that wins the game for us and aren't willing to defer to the newbies on this team and that includes the coach. I think in order for the Wizards to make some noise, they're going to have to change the face of this team. They need to solicit players that think more about WE than ME.

^^ Exactly. Jordan's system completely spoiled them. Gil is the only one I've seen that has the propensity to change. He's had the luxury to sit on the bench the past few years and see how $h1t doesn't work. Twan and Grape Drink are LOST and don't even know it. I'm sick to stomach of Butler. Last night did it for me. HE NEEDS TO GO! My hate for him is at DeSuck level.

I was there a few games into the season and was thinking about this last season. You can't have someone that selfish who thinks he's "above" everyone else as a team captain.
Getting rid of him will actually be addition by subtraction.

Jeeze, kind of embarrassing to see my argument for Andre Miller.
I guess that was from when Gil was struggling and Squirrel was darting all over the old oak tree and carrying out nuts single handed.
Feels like, about, twelve thousand years ago or so.
Suffice to say, scrap that idea.

Now I see why Gil called out Butler earlier this season. This turd just doesn't get it. He let that one season we pulled a Houston Rockets go to his f**cking head. Dude thinks he's the alpha and omega. Trade his soda pop ass now Ernie!! I don't care who we get!

So now it comes out that Foye was supposed to have the last shot vs Dallas. I hope that Butler is penalized like McGee was for this ish.
"I think there was a situation where Jason Terry couldn't stop Randy. We were trying to get Randy the ball out top and just take him with his size," Saunders said. "You have to put yourself in a situation where you go to the other team's weakness. It's just one of those things. I had a lot of coaches calling and they said, 'Now was that the play? You wanted to match up Caron against Shawn Marion, maybe the best five second defender in the league? I said, 'Not necessarily.' "

Re: The Still Shockingly Sucky Caron Butler Thread.
The play didn't make sense to me at the time. Butler had a good game, I loved his tude and how he challenged Marion and attacked the basket relentlessly, but with the game on the line you don't play to strength of another team.
That sort of insubordination is poison to any team, and I can see now that Phil Jackson may sensed Butlers inability to be the second fiddle on a team loaded with a legit super star and moved him as a result.

Welcome to the team, JWiz!

Flip Saunders enables and reinforces Butler with big minutes regardless of how he plays.
McGuire never plays.
Jamison never shifts to SF.
An alternative would be to bench Butler or limit him to 15-20 minutes. Particularly after Butler tried to be hero, Flip could have made a statement. Well, actually he did. Flip believes in veterans and right now has a worse record than Eddie Jordan. I see why.
I'm not hating on Butler when Flip's the reason why.

Let's bench Butler and kill any trade value he has. Benching him dampers his relationship with the team and other teams will know we are selling low.
I highly doubt he gets so many minutes and opportunities after the trade deadline if he is still here.

Playing him isn't exactly throwing his value up either. The more PT he gets, the lower his value has gotten. It would be better to sit his ass down. You know how many GMs witnessed that Dallas game? Oh yeah, I bet they are just banging down Ernie's door to bring in a guy like that.

All the GM's saw was a guy who is not a #1 being forced into a #1 role. If a GM had to watch that game to realize that, then I'm not really sure why they are employed by their respective team.
Teams know what they will get from Caron and I'm sure there are teams that believe that they can get better use out of him than we can. Benching him will only sour the relationship between the two sides while teams will low ball us because they know he's not a part of the teams plans.

Re: Caron "Grape Drink" Butler Must Go Now!!
Best place to send him is Phili because I don't think we are going to get as much for him anywhere else.
CB was a very good player once upon a time. Probably the best all around player on the team. Actually, he probably still could be a good player in EJs system. Two years ago was an elite player. He was actually in the MVP race at one point because he was logging in that special class of 20+ 6-7 rebs and 4 something assists plus steals. They would always bring this up as only LeBron and like Kobe were doing that.
Problem as I see it is.
1- He is probably past his prime at 29. Injuries have caught up with him some and age. A SF who is 6-7 needs to be quick, with handles, some leaps and a shot. SF may be the toughest position to age gracefully at. AJs added height and quick release make it easier for him even though he isn't a leaper or a great ball handler.
2- Unlike those other players, as others have said, CB was a system guy. He doesn't have the handles or the first step to go it alone. Nor does he have the consistent jump shot required. Kobe and LeBron get open Js because they can blow by you.
3- He has already signed the best contract he is going to get and he is playing like he thinks he can get another big contract like AJ did. Sorry CB, as is, your probably a solid 6-7M a year player. And for the record, 6M a year is some sweet dough. Nothing to sneeze at.
CB just isn't a good match for Flips system that seems to rely more on a true PG and isolation plays and players who can pass off that isolation. This system requires that your a better ball handler and a quick passer.
While Flips system is probably more fundamentally sounds ( more basic X's and Os ) and easier to learn, it relies on more traditional talent. With the right talent, it's probably a better system come playoff time when things slow down and become more isolation. So while things are looking back, the this is a better foundation to grow something from in the long run.
I think Haywood fits fine. Nick could if his game rounded out but he is a bench player mentally. AJ seems to have found a way to make it work for him as a floater scorer. AJ is kind of the Rip of this system more then Nick is. Foye is doing pretty well in it though he would need to focus more on his PG passing skills which for several games he did. MM really is only a solid bench player in this system because he doesn't look for his shot enough and over the last two games of him looking for his shot more, he doesn't seem to be doing as well. But we are really missing at least two starters. A PF and a SG given you play Foye at PG, AJ at SF and Haywood at C. Sadly, we could have had Blair which would have fit perfectly for what we need. And Curry would have made a nice SG even though he is skinny.
But some of this is to be expected. First year coach, new system. We haven't had long to add the players that fit what he wants.

Re: Caron "Grape Drink" Butler Must Go Now!!
As frustrating as Butler has been at times this season, this quote from the Washington Post makes me remember how much heart the guy has. He strikes me as being a fiercely loyal type of player. He loves being in D.C., but the past few years the team has experienced a boat load of bad luck. The guy is probably just shell shocked from all that happened. Maybe he has to go....but I wish him well.
Butler added that he's not worried about being traded, but sounded like someone who has accepted the fact that might not have many more games in a Wizards uniform. "I understand it's business. You take the bitter with the sweet and try to have some magnificent moments before the deadline," he said. "I'll always view Washington as home. I had a great time here. I had the most success I ever had. I feel like the city adopted me with open arms, like never before. I'm a Washingtonian. We'll see what happens, but whatever happens, I'll always love the city."

^^ Dang...now I feel like ****. I sure this feeling will pass after the next game though.
