Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Okung makes sense...their LTs are Sean Locklear and Damion McIntosh, whoever the heck they are. Im guessing they could use an upgrade there. I think Walter Jones was their Lt, and he was good, but is old and got hurt.
Trading 2 for 6 and 14 if Suh is gone would be a dream, and i mean a dream, scenario. You still have a shot at Eric Berry at six we are going to get a really good player. 14 would net us a defensive starter as well.
That would be so sweet

It's only a rumor right now, but one I'd look into if I'm the Lions.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
It's looking like the Rams will try to sign any QB available, which means they want Suh #1. So the lions will be choosing between Gerald McCoy and Eric Berry.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Kinda doubt they do.....no real good QB talent on the open market this season. With the #1 pick, they should seriously consider taking their QB there instead of trying to patch things up by signing Kyle Orton for a couple years....

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
I agree that is what they SHOULD do, but it's not what I think they WILL do. Rams have been talking about McNabb and Vick as possible QBs for their team.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Vick don't make sense in St. Louis. His style of play doesn't fit there offense. He ONLY makes sense in Miami, Philly, Denver, and Oakland. That's it.
And McNabb said if he gets traded to a non playoff team (let alone a team that only won 1 game last year) then he's just going to retire.
I'm worried, yet I'm not so worried.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
The only thing I worry about if whether a QB really stands out from this class. I hope either Bradford or Clausen (or whoever) really makes an impression on the Rams.....
If not, the Rams might take Suh #1 if they feel there is not that much of a drop-off between those guys versus waiting and taking McCoy, Snead, Pike, Tebow, etc.....in round 2 or 3.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Vikings should take McCoy with there first round pick. That way, they have there QB to learn under Favre for a year (if he comes back for a year).
That way, if they pass on Suh expecting another QB in the draft, they are left with Snead, Pike, LeFevour. hahaha All those will be NFL failures. Serves them right for thinking they can take another DT.
Honestly, they have enough money invested in their DLineman... I don't see how they can afford to pay another one, who could very well beat Staffords deal last year. It just don't make sense to me when I put myself in a GM's shoes.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
If I were the Rams GM, I would either take Clausen or Okung or Berry. There whole team is Steven Jackson... even if they do get Clausen. There offense will STILL revolve around SJax. They have a complete garbage OLine, and SJax could very well be the best RB in the league if he had a good line that will give him his first 3-5 yards untouched.
If they want to go defense, there DL is not the way to go. There DL isn't bad in the first place. There secondary, however, is complete trash.
Ok, so if I was the GM, I would HONESTLY trade down to 4-6 range (maybe take Seattle's two first) and aim for Berry or Okung with their first and save money doing it.

Well if you're Seattle then, who do you take at #1?

Berry, Okung, Suh, or Clausen. They have holes EVERYWHERE... whether it's because bad people are playing it, or the good people on that team are just old.
If I was Seattle, actually, I'd keep my two first round picks.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Saw a few later-round prospects during Shrine Bowl practice and game that could be of interest:
Rodger Saffold, T, Indiana--was easily the best player, not just lineman, all week. He's a bulky LT with real quick feet. Has elevated himself to bottom 2nd/early 3rd range. If the whispers about Cherilus being on the bubble are legit, picking him at the top of the 3rd makes a lot of sense.
Nate Collins, DT, Virginia--compares to Andre Fluellen stylistically, but Collins has more base strength and a much better feel for using his hands. He's a solid 4th-5th round 3-technique tackle that can get some pressure up the gut. Great pad level, which is Fluellen's downfall.
Texas Tech G Brandon Carter--you probably know him as the heavily-tattooed guy who paints his face for games. He is a steamroller in run blocking, quicker than he looks. Pass protection needs work because of how they play line at TTU, but he's bright and athletic. Top of 4th round potential, maybe a little later because he does have some injury history. He's far more agile, smart, and polished than Manny Ramirez from the same place.
Dmitri Nance, RB, Arizona State--sort of a Jonathan Stewart lite, big-butted inside-out runner iwth quick feet and the ability to take a hit and keep going forward. Good complement to Aaron Brown but probably not a feature RB, but the only 2 feature RBs in this draft are Spiller and Matthews, maybe Dwyer. Worth a 5th-6th rounder.
Seyi Ajirotuto, WR, Fresno State--tall, big-framed with great hands, and he really stands out as a blocker. Long-strider but he changes speeds well to get separation a la Vincent Jackson. 6th-7th rounder who would do well as the 3rd WR with someone shifty inside him in the slot.
3 guys you want no part of:
Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss--apathetic athletic freak that plays too high and is lost if he doesn't get the jump on the tackle. He will miss 2 plays for every good one he makes, plus he's got the body of a 35-year old already. These are the guys Marinelli loved, 'nuff said.
Alteraun Verner, CB, UCLA--major disappointment, hasn't yet seen a pump fake he won't bite on, and he's a grabber. Ketp getting beat by crappy Qbs throwing to meh wideouts.
Darrell Stuckey, S, Kansas--I've seen games where he looked like a real thumper wtih good instincts, and I've also seen him take real bad angles and not wrap up. There was a lot more of the former this week. Will be overdrafted as a strong safety and IMO he'snot as good as Marvin White, who I think will be a very pleasant surprise for the Lions next year.

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

According to all the Senior Bowl reports, the Lions coaches are quite impressed with G Mike Iupati.

Awesome. I know offensive guard is about the least sexy position out there, and drafting him with that pick in the second round would probably have casual fans screaming "we picked a guard from Idaho in the second?!?!", but he has the potential to be an all-pro guard. And our guard play this year sucked. He would help the run game immensely and provide a little more protection for Stafford. If we can fill a hole in the offensive line with an almost guaranteed upper-echelon guard, thats hard to argue with.
If he somehow falls to the second (doubtful at best) I would give him a long hard look.

I've seen a little of him and have read conflicting reports on him. I'm up in the air, but I'm erring on the side of the coaches who are getting a first hand look at these guys.

This is a good read on RB Joique Bell out of Wayne State. Talks about he's been pretty impressive at the Senior Bowl. Again, I'd really like us to draft this kid in the 4th/5th round....
The freep also had a pretty good story on Missouri's LB, Weatherspoon. I thought he was a pretty good LB prospect. Glad he's also making a positive impression on the coaches....

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
If we don't draft a RB in the 4th or 5th, THEN I'll look at Joique Bell. But Dexter McCluster and Laggarette Blunt are by far the best RB's on both their teams and 4th / 5th round picks.
