Preview

Via ESPN.com

Even without some of their key players, the Detroit Pistons are enjoying a strong stretch that includes a win over one of the Eastern Conference's top teams.

The Pistons, though, certainly wouldn't mind getting Ben Gordon and Tayshaun Prince back as they continue their longest homestand of the season against the struggling Indiana Pacers on Friday night.

Detroit (15-26) has won four of five even though it played each contest without Gordon (groin), Prince (knee) and Will Bynum (ankle). Gordon and Prince are expected to be game-time decisions Friday, while Bynum will miss his 11th straight contest.

Gordon, averaging 17.2 points, has missed the last five games and 16 this season. Prince has been active for nine games.

Prince was the Pistons' second-leading scorer last season, averaging 14.2 points.

Rodney Stuckey, leading the backcourt with Gordon out, had 27 points and a career-high 11 rebounds as Detroit kicked off a six-game homestand with a 92-86 win over Boston on Wednesday night.

The win was the third straight at home for the Pistons, who are 3 1/2 games behind eighth-place Chicago in the East.

"They understand that we're at a stage right now where we've just got to work hard," Detroit coach John Kuester said.

The Pistons need Stuckey to remain sharp. The third-year guard went 11 for 24 from the field after shooting 36.9 percent over his previous four games.

Stuckey was held to 10 points on 2-of-9 shooting in a 106-102 loss to Indiana on April 11, the teams' last meeting.

The Pistons and Pacers (14-28) both won two games at home in last season's series. Detroit has won five straight and seven of eight versus the Pacers at The Palace.

Indiana is 4-18 on the road, allowing 107.7 points per game. The Pacers lost 109-98 at Orlando on Wednesday night, their third straight defeat following a three-game winning streak.

Center Roy Hibbert, who had scored in double figures in four straight games, was held to three points as Indiana struggled with its big lineup on the floor. When the Pacers went small, utilizing players such as Dahntay Jones and Mike Dunleavy, they went on a 23-4 run to cut their deficit to eight midway through the fourth.

That success may help dictate how coach Jim O'Brien uses his rotation going forward.

"We struggle with a big lineup," he said. "A big lineup doesn't work for us. We are better when we're small. It is too slow, it doesn't run, it doesn't move, it doesn't get up and down and it doesn't defend on a high enough level."

All-Star Danny Granger is certain to be a mainstay in whatever configuration O'Brien uses. The forward had 25 points after scoring a season-low eight on 2-of-16 shooting in a 113-83 loss to Miami on Tuesday night.

Granger averaged 30.8 points and shot 40.0 percent (8 for 20) from 3-point range in his last four games against Detroit.

Why the hell do they not start Charlie?

Even though I want the Pacers to have the best shot at the number 1 pick I DO want them to win this game. Only games I want them to win, against the Pistons, and the Knicks. I hate these guys.

starkiller - Agreed. Although, a few years ago i would have said that this rivarly would never get old and i will always hate them. But, this rivalry has just lost so much. I mean, the Pistons don't win much anymore. I do hope we beat them though, i absolutely hate Detroit.

Btw, after their 13-game losing streak, they are now 4-1 since.

ps. What has happened to T.Prince? Has any star fallen so quickly before? Seemed like he was on the path for some real stardom for years and now he's almost a garbage player.

^^No, he's always just been a really solid player. I remember when people might have vaunted him as an all-star along with the rest of the Pistons starting lineup, but he'll always come in, defend, do well offensively and be done with it.

As far as I know, Tay is still injured slightly, that's why I think he hasn't been starting. Don't quote me on it, but I tihnk he's a bit banged up.

Oh i see, my bad, didn't realize he was hurt.

And man i hate Rip Hamilton. Does he still have to wear that stupid mask? Doesn't he know it's all in his head about him "having" luck with it. Dude, give it a rest brother.

Btw, Price and Rush looking good tonight. If they continue to play like this and Murphy continues to kill them on the boards, this will be a easy second half for the Pacers. Hamilton will come back down to earth sooner then later.

This game is going great. We have the Pistons frustrated, and there's good D happening. We match up well against the Pistons because our weakest point is post defense, but luckily the Pistons don't have any post offense.

Great second half. I knew Rip would come back down to earth and Granger and Murphy played very well and that was pretty much it for the Pistons. Not impressed with Stuckley tonight.

Nice 3-pointer by Price. Can't leave him open like that or he will kill you.

I like Price's game a lot, like the way he comes up the court, i like that he doesn't throw too many turnovers, he's usually good with the ball, i think he finds his teammates pretty well and i absolutely loved the way he split those defenders earlier in the game. Seriously, we as Pacers fans have not seen that from a point guard in a long time! But, as someone mentioned in another thread, he does seem to take a lot of poor 3-point shots and misses them. The only Jamaal Tinsley similarity he has.

Brandon Rush has a fantastic stroke. 5 for 8 from downtown!

Why doesn't he drive in more?

^^He tries. He was doing that earlier in the year, and then stopping and dishing. I like that his attempts have gone up. That's step 1.

AJ Price is also 10x the 3-point shooter that Jamaal was.

Not saying who's better of a shooter, but, Price in recent games has been taking a lot of stupid 3-point shots. I've watched the Nets, Miami, Orlando and Pistons games since i have YES and then the free preview. He's been 3 for 18 in these games. Then if you add the New Orleans game which i didn't see in between the Nets and Miami games where he went 1-6, he's shot 4 for 24 from 3-point range. In the games I saw, i feel like he's taken many awful shots.
