T.Wills Progress

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Fri Jan 22, 2010 10:09 pm

I was a massive T.Will fan heading into the draft considering the range where we were drafting and shattered that you guys snapped him up before we had a chance to draft him - which we would have no doubt done.

I know a lot of Nets fans were/are down on him because of the things he said (about what would have happened if the Raps or the Bobcats drafted him) but I was wondering if you could give me an update as to where he is at?

Has his game crossed over from college to the NBA?
Is he as creative with the ball as he was in college- mainly with his passing?
Is he rebounding as well in the NBA as he was in college?
Is his defense as solid?
Has he improved on his jump shot - mainly is it more consistent?
Are you playing him as a PG, SG, SF or PF?

Thanks guys.

- Still creative with the ball
- Excellent rebounder
- Defense - Hard to tell, his minutes are sporadic and this team's team defense sucks. He's eager on defense I will say that...
- His jumpshot is terrible... He settles for it way too often, he needs to make more straightline moves to the basket.
- He played some PG early on when Harris and Dooling were out he's basically settled into being a SG-SF now

There's hope for him but I'm a little disappointed by his lack of maturity.

Thanks NetsForce.

Is the form on his jumper still inconsistent? I always felt that was his problem. One time down the floor his J would like pure, he'd great great lift and he straight up and down with a nice release point. Next time down the floor he'd pull the trigger way too early in his lift (regardless of being defended or open) and his left arm would flail about. It was hit and miss with no rhyme or reason. I strongly felt that with some long, hard work over the summer and during his NBA career working on it, he could easily become a good shooter. Heck, JRIch was a bad shooter when he came to the NBA!!

As far as the maturity thing goes: Are you talking about the Twitter stuff or his on court body language?

Slam, you know I was with you predraft and loved this kid, but now I hate him. All it took were those silly remarks. I still think he has big potential, but I hope he realizes it somewhere else. :x

I know you are steamed at him for the silly things he said Pres, but that aside, have you liked what you have seen on the court from him?

I plan on watching the Nets Vs Warriors game tonight - so hopefully he gets lots of burn!!

NetForce summed it up well.
His jumper is crazy broken and he can get to the hoop at will, yet he keeps jacking jumpers.
Still love his energy and he can pass the hell out of the ball and his rebounding is very good.
He can really get out on the break and run as well.
He looks similar to how he did in college when he gets burn, but because of a plethora of things, from his off the court antics, to his two week chuck fest, to his rookie mistakes, his playing time has been pretty limited of late.
I don't want to trade him for junk, I want full value, but I really want him gone.
His remarks were just completely uncalled for. His attitude stinks. The red flags should have went up at the draft combine when he was talking about who he wanted to play like because that guy got paid. :nonono:
We'll see though. I guess while he is still here, I might as well root for him to do well and get his value up, but I sincerely hope he isn't here long term.

Trade you Gerald Henderson straight up for him.

They play the same position, only drafted one spot apart - and Hendo isn't the type of guy who would ever say anything that would p*ss you off.

I get T.Will on my team!!

It's a win win!

;)

Seriously, maybe playing on a team like the Bobcats with guys like Larry Brown, Raymond Felton, Gerald Wallace and especially Stephen Jackson, not to mention that Jordan fella that hangs around, might really help him to mature - as a player and a man?

How has Henderson been playing anyway?

He's stuck behind Jax and Flip so pretty much never sees the court. I wish they would send him down to the D to get some burn, but Larry seems to be against sending our rooks down there. Did the same with Ajinca in his rookie season.

Hendo is long and very athletic. Seems to be a little "star struck" at times though and rushes things - during the rare occasion he gets some burn. I think he will be ok though.

It's the twitter stuff but it's more his body language. I don't think Williams as playing as selflessly as he was in college.

We'll take on Humphries (or Dooling) to get T-Will for CJ Watson and expiring contract Speedy Claxton. Interesting for you?

Negative.

I actually like Humphries as a role player, I'd consider a Dooling for Watson swap though...

Okay, so CJ and Claxton for Twill and Dooling.

You guys get another $3M to spend for FA and the rights to CJ in the offseason. we get TWill and Dooling.

Deal?

Dooling is only guaranteed for 500K next season.

aha...so its a non-starter, unless you really want CJ Watson and his FA rights.

I find it very humorous that vc4prez actually hates Williams for what he posted on his Twitter account. Imagine what the reaction would be if TWill actually said he didn't like playing in New Jersey.

:o

But yeah, I like St. Nick's offer. The Dubs would probably be more than happy to take the kid off your hands.

That is basically what he said.

It's been interesting watching him these past two games. I've been lucky to tune in while he's had back to back 20+min games.

It's almost been like coach has said to him "Ok Terrence, I want you to go in there and create for everyone else as much as you can". So Terrence checks in, does a pretty good job of being a pseudo PG and looks to create for everyone else. But in doing so, totally ignores trying to score or attack the rim himself.

Then, the next time he checks in, coach says to him "Ok Terrence, I want you to go in there and put up some shots". So Terrence checks in and he puts up a bunch of shots pretty much every time he touches the ball. But in doing so, he goes away from him playmaking for others.

Almost like he (or coach?) can't find the right balance. Do you know what I mean - or am I seeing things? I know that two games are a very small sample size. Hoping to be watching more of him over the next few weeks.

Either way, I still dig him. A lot. Tweeter gaffs or not!

Would you do something like Gerald Henderson and Acie Law for T.Will and Boone?

Gives you back up to Harris at the point and the type of SG that has the same sort of upside as T.Will, but wont offend you like he has?
