OT: How do I find out the "prescription" of my glasses?

Post#1 » by Speedlot » Wed Jan 27, 2010 3:59 am

I'm trying to buy glasses online. Unfortunately I don't know(forgot) the measurements/prescriptions of my eye classes. My eye doctor had her place close down so i can't really find out without a check up(money). I'm trying to purchase new eyeglasses, because I feel the pair i'm wearing right now will break soon.

Is there any method I can use to find out how blind I am? Using the internet of some sort? I failed with google so i'm here on the laker forums to seek for help. Thanks in advance.

NO. you need an actual check up.. I mean, dude it's only $50 so why skimp on that? If it's been 1 year, you're due for a checkup anyways.

The eyes are nothing to screw around with. One bad decision and you could be blind for life.

For $49 dollars I can send you your exact prescription with a wide array of frames to choose from.

That's a total savings of $1 as compared to those "other guys."

Whatd'ya say?

The guy is happy with the prescription he has.. all he is asking is for a way to find his prescription without having to see a doctor. If u are not a diabetic, not having any eye trouble or not in ur 40s or more often than not ur prescription will be stable, usually a eye check will be meaning less.

Yes there is a way, you basically need to know someone who dispenses eyeglasses. They have equipment that can find the prescription from ur old glasses.

I still say going cheap will hurt you in the long run. See a pro.

all you have to do is take your glasses to lenscrafters and tell them to mesure the prescription to your glasses. they put them on a little machine and it tells them what the prescription is.

Snaq is right lens crafters and wall mart should have this little machine to put them on and they can tell what your current prescription is. I was in the Army and they would use that machine to save time before a deployment.

1. Go to Wal-Mart or lens crafters some place cheap tell them you need your prescription right away it’s an emergency and ask "nicely" if they could tell you from your current ones. They probably wont charge you if you ask nicely.
2. Once you get your prescription, scan it or type it and email it to yourself, store it in your email for safe keeping. Just in case you need it while on a trip. If this happens, hit up a one hour optometrist or just ask for disposable contacts that way you can get them while you wait.
3. For frame measurement check the inside arm of your current frames that you are wearing. If these feel comfortable to wear just use the measurements to order your new frames.
4. Look on the right or left side inside arm area of your current glasses and there will be a set of numbers. These numbers are the measurements of the frames. For instance my numbers are on the left hand side and are "51/ 17 145".
5. Enter these numbers in the appropriate area "frame size or measurements etc..." when ordering your frames from online.

Once you have your prescription and measurements you will be sure to have a nice set of comfortable glasses.
I would check out OliverPeeples in L.A .they have a store front on Melrose and an online store you can call them during store hours (P.S.T.) if you have questions. 8-)
Hope this helps...
