He knows that Wood guards him as good as anybody. Wood also always boost himself up like he's a beast but surprisngly I remember him talking about EJ and talking about how he didnt deserve to sit and how he couldve always produced. He did say though that if you ask him to sit behind Yao or Howard then he has no problem but sit behind Etan? Basically Im saying that even though Wood has always thought very highly of himself, he still aknowledges that Howard is a different beast all together and both have the type of personality to where they probably get along with eachother very well. Wood has also shut him down one on one better than any big in the league so Im not shocked at all. I am shocked that he has himself down at 5. Smith has always been one of his best if not thee best friends he has in the league so Im not shocked that he has him 1st espically with the Hawks winning. I just noticed he has Perkins in there too who is probably 2nd to Wood in terms of guys who guard Howard the best so that may have a huge influence on his list

I always liked Perkins - even when he was trying to cover up for Jefferson's awful D on that terrible C's team before they traded Jefferson for KG. Btw, who came up with that MVP list? Really, Joe Johnson (19.3 PER) up at 7th while Dwayne Wade (27.9 PER) is down at 10th?

heh.

Always refreshing to see Haywood get well-deserved recognition, even though the media would never pick up on it.

Interesting to see Howard's reasoning (or at least the part he chose to include)...

Dwight Howard wrote:Most people don't realize that he is among the top four in the league in blocked shots this season. So he definitely should be up there.

I would have thought he'd have commented on rock-solid post defense and not just one aspect of said defense.

Is there a high correlation between good defense and blocked shots?

But I thought EFJ knew best when he'd play Etan and Ruffin and he was right to sabotage the team based on his own butthurt feelings?

I appreciate reading Dwight's insight, but we all know that the DPOY and All-Defense team have ignored "defensive specialists" for the past few years in favor of honoring superstars. I expect this year's All-D team to once again feature some combination of Paul, Wade, Kobe, LeBron, Duncan and Howard. Maybe Josh Smith makes it on there as an acknowledgement of ATL's improvement.

regarding Josh Smith
We played together in high school and AAU so I taught him how to be a great defender (chuckle).

yikes. can you imagine that HS squad? Josh Smith and Dwight Howard at the 4/5?
