Another "what if" regarding Favre

Post#1 » by BuckFan25226 » Wed Jan 27, 2010 7:12 pm

Ok, I want all of you to think for a moment and try to leave emotion out of this. My brother, and a couple of our buddies were talking about this yesterday.

Lets say we're 8-2 or 7-3 in the 2nd half of the season next year, and Rodgers goes down with a season ending injury. For arguments sake, Favre is retired, yet has been staying in shape and would be willing to come back and play for Green Bay. Because at this point, at 7-3 or 8-2, we're obviously a playoff team.

To all of you, would you support the move to bring him in? Clearly, from a football standpoint alone, Favre can still play at a high level. As much as I wanted him to fail and as much as I hated seeing him play for the Vikings. I would be all for it. Give him one shot to redeem himself and win another SB, or at least get there.

I would say for me it depends purely on how Flynn is developing as a QB. I doubt TT/MM would want to bring Favre in regardless but from a completely unemotional standpoint if Flynn is capable, if we are winning due to defense and have a capable running game, and just need a game manager then I would pass on Favre because he has proven in big games over the years that he is more than capable of choking the game away.

If we need to get a playmaker at the QB position and he is the best/only option then I would consider it, however like I said above, I doubt TT/MM would even consider the move not after the last 2 years. If he had stayed retired waiting in the wing it would have been a different story but I'm pretty sure he has burned every single bridge between himself and our current management/coaching staff.

Sure, IF Brett came back understanding he was gone the next year when Rodgers came back.

But Vikes have contract rights and I wouldn't give anything but a 7th pick for him.

But Aaron will stay healthy behind our improved OL and win us a SB leaving Brett a distant memory.

Next year will be Flynn's 3rd season in this offense. I'm perfectly fine with him being the primary backup.

From everything I have heard the Packers are very pleased with Flynn's progression as the back-up.

Yeah I've heard the same thing, that Flynn made great improvements between year 1 and year 2. Obviously you don't know for sure until he gets meaningful playing time.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Absolutely not. Rodgers has handled all of the Favre drama over the last few years remarkably well. To ask our franchise player to do it again would be a colossal insult and very stupid organizational decision. Not to mention the fact that I'd rather play out the season and end up with a higher draft pickthnqn to once again get my hopes dashed watching Favre implode in a big playoff game.

I wouldn't do it. It may be foolish, but I'd bring in almost any guy besides him just because of last season's ____storm. No way TT does it either. Interesting scenario though...

No. I can't handle another playoff choke job by him.

I think the question was putting any emotional reasons aside. Yes, if it was a video game I would bring him back if ARod went down. In real life, not a chance it would happen.
