NBA/ABA Decades League Discussion Thread

Much of the credit for these ideas goes to Miller4ever, CellarDoor, Snakebites, and Warspite.

The rules are:

16 teams

10 players per team

All NBA and ABA players are available (each player may only be selected once).

Each starter must be from a different decade (I don't expect anyone to try to circumvent this rule, but, just in case, a "starter" must start and play at least 25 minutes per game, and all players taken in the first 3 rounds must start).

1 year peaks (1979-80 is considered the 80s)

ABBABAABAB draft order

No trading

4 divisions of 4 teams each

The first round is round robin. Each team will play the other teams in its divisions once; each participant will vote on matchups not in his/her division. Failure to vote on a matchup will result in a loss of one vote in that player's own matchup.

After that, there will be four teams (two matchups). Eliminated participants can vote.

There may be additional outside judges.

Mmhm. The "games" really are supposed to take place on this board. I'm not raising a stink either way though.

The mods may decide to move it, but that forum seems to get a lot more hits. I also know that some past versions of this have been done there.

You're concerns about there being enough views by outside participants on a draft thread? lol

They were done there either A: out of tradition or B: when they preceded this board. As I said, it's not something I'm overly concerned with.

From the experience with previous leagues I can say with certainty that ABBAABBAAB is too inconvenient for lower picks. I swear I was going to say the same before establishing selecting order ;-)

- you may check in older threads I've always been in favour of ABBABAABAB, so can we change it when it's still time for this?
I reckon the 50s are allowed. It's good: I don't expect many guys from that era to be taken, but perhaps in later rounds? After all it's all-time competition, so having guys from each era would be fitting.

50s players are allowed. As for the draft order, I'll go look at sone past drafts and see what I think. It's not too late to change it, but it will be soon.

since we are doing all time a 50's guy should be mantitory for the roster (a bench spot is fine) but 1 person for every dacade
