Iggy available for expirings...
So, we've talked about trying to trade for Iggy for a while, but I wanted peoples' takes on why, if these rumors that Iggy is available for expirings if Dalembert goes with him, would Kahn not make a bid?
Fit?
Contract?
Cost of taking on Dalembert for a year?
Rumors are BS and Philly wants a lot more assets back?
or is he expecting to get someone else who is better, younger(not that 26 is old), or cheaper?

Dalembert + Iggy for expirings should be a done deal. If thats all it takes. If you want to run, those are 2 guys that will help you do it.

I would love to make this deal, but I would like to wait until the offseason, where Iggy could be our 2nd choice. If no free agents want to come here(Lebron, Wade, Gay, Bosh, whoever) then we should like into this deal for capsapce.

I wouldn't mind that at all, then who do we take with our pick? I would prefer, one of Iggy/Gay and then Turner.

There's no way to get both Iggy and Gay unless you trade for them both now. That's pretty unlikely.

Wait, if philly wants expiring contracts then wouldn't they want to be in the running for those guys? I think if we are thinking realistically we should make this trade...NOW. However, if our goal is to get the highest draft pick possible we could just "tank" games(we don't even have to try) until the deadline then get the deal done. Then we'd have all those guys + a high draft pick + likely generating fan interest in Minny before next season.

We cannot wait until the offseason because our expiring contracts will already be expired.
Also if we made the trade now we cannot get Rudy G later because we will no longer have any cap space.
Either do the Philly trade now or take our chances at a free agent this summer or next summer.

Gay's Wages of Win is too low for my liking. He only a .037 last year and .074 in 2007-2008, while only sporting .081 so far this year. Compared to Martin, he had a .118 last year and .183 the year before. Plus, having a player that has TS% of 60%+ for the last 4 years is amazing.

Kahn could add Iggy over the summer if he traded a player making $3 million for Iggy or if he cut another $3 million in salary cap space next year, like cutting Gomes or trading him for an expiring contract, Kahn would have enough space to trade a second round pick for Iggy because we have enough cap space to absorb the contract.

Re: Iggy available for expirings...
It's because the extra years on Iggy's deal make his deal just as bad as Dalemberts. After the new CBA Iggy will be overpaid a lot more than he is now and the last two years of his deal could cripple a franchise.

I do it and I do it now before someone else does. We have the expirings to make it work and better to guarantee we get Iggy than hope we get Johnson, Gay, etc in FA.
We'll still finish bad enough to get a high pick.

Yeah but we should be hoping for a top 2 pick. Turner or Wall for us would be huge. Iggy could pry get us out of that. Our team is pretty good when we have Al/Love and then one of Brewer, Flynn, Gomes step up. Iggy would be the consistent 17-18 points, and good defense that could make us alot better. Plus Brewer has been playing like an actual starter lately.

I think the idea of a hard cap in the next CBA is a fantasy.I don't think enough owners would support it and there is no way the players will.
More likely is a ramped up luxury tax.

Why wouldn't they support it? It's in the best interests of the owners. This allows them an excuse to spend less money and increase profits. The Lakers, for example, are going to sell out every game regardless of their cap number. Sure it ruins their competitive advantage, and maybe that's while you'll see a few owners object (the one's in big markets) but for the majority of owners it's going to help them make money at the expense of the players and level the playing field.

You really think they'll give him up for nothing? They're trying to use him to get rid of Dalembert's contract. We do not have enough cap space this summer to take them both on.

Re: Iggy available for expirings...
I think I'd do it. Dally gives us an incredible option as 3rd defensive big. Iggy, Al, and whomever we draft could work into a contender. (Basically I rate Iggy and Al as both 2nd best players on a contender.)
I wouldn't want to give up any assests outside one of our late 1st rounders, gomes, or possibly sessions (if Philly wants Brewer, Flynn, Love, Rubio, Al, or Pekovic, no way).
As for the discussion on chaning the cap, I don't think that is gonna happen. It's in the best interest of the NBA as a business to make the most money. It's safe to say that there are approx. 20 teams that, if they won the championship, the NBA as a whole would lose money. The NBA wants teams like NY, BOS, LA, CHI, MIA, and ORL to do well because the market size corresponds with the number of viewers, fans, and spenders.

To bring in a hard cap you need either unguaranteed contracts in my opinion which probably means a season plus lockout at a minimum with no certainty that the owners would get it even then, or a hard cap at a level that is closer to the luxury tax level than the present salary cap level which would lead to probably greater spending than at present on salaries.
A hard cap probably favours big market clubs over small market clubs because it reduces the ability of smaller market teams to "overpay" to get or keep their players. Most players given a choice between similar deals in LA or Memphis are going to take up the LA offer, especially factoring in local marketing opportunities.
A hard cap at levels that saves money for owners will also lead to a decrease in quality in the league ,with more mid-level players going overseas and less overseas players coming into the league.
Why would someone like Rubio ever come over if his effective salary cap in the NBA was less than he could earn in Europe?.
There are just much easier and more likely ways for the owners to get an increased share of the money that a hard cap just seems incredibly unlikely to me.

Iguodala
Dalembert
Carney (bought out)
for
Blount
Cardinal
Gomes
Wilkins
+Utah and Cha 1st
Brewer/Sessions or Ellington could be somehow included if they want a player other than Gomes in return for the salary dump. Or throw in Pekovic's rights.
Jefferson/Dalembert
Love/Jefferson
Iguodala/Brewer
Turner/Ellington
Flynn/Sessions/Rubio
I still doubt they would want to do it.

Re: Iggy available for expirings...
To put the pros and cons in writing:
Pros
Put a better team on the court this year. Drum up fan interest. It will probably help the development of Flynn, Jefferson, Love and Brewer this year to have Iggy & Daly on the team. Give them some time to start playing together in real games before next season. It is in the best interest of the NBA to have all of the teams be as competitive as they possibly can. Frees us from having to waive our existing free agents, our MLE, our BAE, and our trade exceptions.
Cons
SInce we really aren't playing for anything this year, we would risk getting too good and losing ping pong balls. This could possibly cost us a drop from Wall or Turner. Lose out on chance to get under the cap and either sign a big free agent(s) or trade raw cap room for talent. Iguadola is signed for 4 more years at over $56 mil. Dalembert is signed at 1 more year and $13 mil. These contracts would limit our future flexibility, and could be argued to be at least slightly overpriced deals
I am leaning towards not making this deal, but could see it both ways.
