that's a great trade by Burke. Phaneuf on his worst day is a #2 defencemen, if he turns it around the leafs have a franchise level defencemen.

oh boy...this will be a disaster for the leafs. phaneuf will come here and be faced with impossible expectations by the leaf media and fan base...he's like turk on ice.

The Leafs just gave up a 25 goal scorer, a 30 goal scorer and their best defenseman for a guy who's been declining. Hardly a great deal.

I've watched Phaneuf suck it up for the past few years in Calgary... If he can turn it around, good for the leafs, but he hasn't been earning any of that 7 million dollar contract... Being that I'm from Calgary, I'm happy that salary is off our books for the next 4 years. He was a problem in the lockerroom here as well, maybe he'll be happy now that he is even further away from Elisha Cuthbert..

get that out the way.

but yeah this is awesome for the future of the organization they didn't have to give up draft picks for once and got another great young piece with a prospect. i am not keen on acquiring giggy because of his age i wanted the team to draft and groom a damn goalie for the longest time. so i say no to that and yes to acquiring more draft picks please!!!!

we need more young scorers on this team.

Honestly, Burke is going to turn this team into a goon squad. The team is already filled with 4th liners playing on top lines, and now he adds another goon instead of going for skilled players, with the few assets they do have.

There is no such thing as a luxury tax in the NHL. It's a HARD cap system, similar to the NFL, and no way comparable to the NBA.

Who's the 30 goal scorer?
Want: Trae Young, Michael Porter Jr., DeAndre Ayton, Jaren Jackson Jr, Marvin Bagley III, Mohamad Bamba, Shai Gilgeous- Alexander, Elie Okobo, Jevon Carter

i think you are overrating a decent scorer on a very bad team. we just acquired an great defense men and only had to give up a guy who is a good fit(added scoring) on the flames roster. i mean dion is not elite yet but he is 24 and his best years are ahead not behind.

maybe you think the leafs are a good defensive team i dunno but you shouldn't overrate hagman he was great here for the past 2 yrs on crappy teams, he wasn't mind blowing. i know the leafs needs scoring but they gotta find something in the draft for once don't they? i mean they are friggen due for it.

Does this trade make Kaberle more expendable. I just don't see Phaneuf and Kaberle playing together. I think that now that we've acquired Phaneuf, it makese Kaberle expandable and maybe Burke has found a great deal for Kaberle.

Dion Phaneuf is one of the most talented defencemen in the entire NHL. He isn't a "Goon". He's a physical player who is uber-skilled.

I can't believe people are saying Calgary won this.

Matt Stajan is a 3rd line center on a good team
Nik Hagman is maybe at best a 2nd line winger on a good team
White is 3-4 defencemen at best
Mayers will be out of the league in a few years.
