Frye Selected for 3-Point Contest

Post#1 » by sunfire0112 » Mon Feb 1, 2010 6:32 am

Frye was chosen to participate in the All-Star Game weekend's 3-point shootout on Feb. 13, a league source confirmed. Frye could be the first center to win the championship. He already is the first center to participate in the 3-point shootout since Seattle's Sam Perkins, a forward-center, did in 1997.

How do you guys think he'll do?

Don't know who the other participants are but I wouldn't put my money on Frye. His stroke is kinda slow (compared to other 3pt shooters) and he doesn't shoot well when he rushes his shots, which will probably happen when he's under pressure during the contest. But wouldn't it be awesome if he was the first center to actually win the 3pt contest?

Ya, I'm surprised Dudley didn't get a nod.
Probably chose Frye because he's a "center" and that adds more appeal to the contest.

I don't think he's going to win. It's normally the pure 3PT shooters that win. Boobie Gibson, useless other than 3PT shooting. Jason Kapono, useless other than 3PT shooting.

Channing Frye isn't really one of those guys and he's been playing 3PT line in ever since he's been in the NBA, it's only now has he started shooting the 3 ball again. Heck Steve Nash, who's one of the best 3PT shooters couldn't hit the ocean with a pebble when he was in the 3PT contest.

Good luck to him though. It's nice having more Suns in the ASW.

I think Dudley's release is too long. Frye is a streak shooter i think he'd be better in this contest.

Frye will lose, as the ASG is in Dallas and not @ US Airways Center.

Frye will have the lowest total of all. His style is not conducive to a contest.

It would be if it was a brick contest!

And how come every-time Frye has the ball in the paint I keep hear Leander saying "Tissue Soft, Channing Frye" in my head (mostly when he misses)?

Really can't imagine him doing to tell, he seems so inconsistent with his shot. But still, congrats to him for being selected.

Well if he's still the same Frye is #2 in the league in 3PTM

Duds is high up on 3PT%

Hard to say who is more justified to make it but I think either one could have a shot at getting in a rhythm. I think Duds probably would have been a better choice ultimately.

Regardless, it'll be great to have someone to cheer for.

Joining the Suns has been the best thing to happen to Frye. Just wish he could get a hook shoot down or something to help him in the low-post.

Amen. We should pretty much be playing him at shooting guard with his current game.

Is Gallinari in it too? If so, he'll probably win.

Dudley has too slow of a release and wouldn't finish all the racks before time expired, Channing can. He has a quick enough release to do it. His mobility to the racks will slow him up though. I say he only finishes top 3 if 6 players are in. If there is 8 players he'll get 5th.

Got to give him props for at least working on defense and rebounding - he's soft as a slice of cake but he gives effort. He's unleashed a few moves to the rim over teh season - good thing for him to keep working on
