The Grizz and the Mystery of Lester Hudson

Post#1 » by pardon_my_interruption » Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:57 am

I have been thinking, why would the Grizzlies claim an unproven product like Lester Hudson off of waivers.

1) They did so knowing that his contract would become guaranteed.
2) He has proven to be an effective player in the league, despite having some talent.
3) He doesn't play a position of need or provide any real depth that this team could use.

I mean I suppose he could serve as 3rd string PG/SG in the event that we move Marcus Williams but I don't think they claim him unless they are committed to either waiving or trading Williams, which I do expect to happen at some point.

But there are other more experienced players aside from Hudson they could have used to fill that spot. Yes his minimum salary is good, but I also think that this has some to do with Boston as well.

I know they really tried hard to trade Hudson to save money but couldn't find a team as a taker and were forced to waive him. I wonder if this was something the Grizzlies or Chris Wallace did as a favor to the Celtics (things like that does happen). And if so, could there be a reaping of the favor for Memphis this season, in the form of a player that could help us.

Like an Eddie House (my preference) or a Tony Allen?

I wouldn't rule it out.

All of that is plausible. There's also the point that the FO was very intrigued with the guy going into the draft. Had Young not been available, I wouldn't have been surprised with him being the choice there. While it's true he doesn't fill a position of need, he's a scorer. Successful scorers will find a place on rosters.

Celtics fan here...I was thinking the same thing when Hudson was waived. You can have our second round pick, it's been at least 3 years since we've tried to develop a young player.

I like Tony Allen a lot and his contract expires in the off season. That move will not take place until Marquis Daniels returns if at all. The Celtics also need a quality wing player so both of our needs are the same.

What's Hudson's status? Celtics fan here, wondering how it went with him. Is he healthy? Did they play him a few minutes a few games and give up? Any word from the team? Thanks.

Lester Hudson has stepped in for Sam Young and is outscoring Kobe Bryant so far. He's the best shooter in the game tonight. Very good to see!!! :P

Celtics fan here, I was a huge advocate of Lester Hudson when we drafted him. Doc never let him play though. He can score no doubts there. His story is great and I think its fitting that he ended up back in the state of Tennessee. My question is (and I am asking because I didn't see the game) how in the world did he get up 10 shots in 12 mins. Paul Pierce only averages 12 FGA's a night.

Because he hasn't met a shot he didn't like. Even if he was the only one who liked it. Our bench is in such a sad state that I believe he pretty much has the green light. He still has a lot to learn about when not to jack it up. Plus against the Cavs, the game was pretty much out of hand so he had a big opportunity to shoot like crazy.
