Bobcats Interested In Jason Thompson?

Post#1 » by Thaliontil » Mon Feb 1, 2010 1:54 pm

According to Realgm we´re looking for a trade with the Kings...They want a big man in exchange for Jason Thompson and perhaps Kenny Thomas (http://www.blasnket.com if you speak spanish).

What do you think about...

Chandler+Henderson xxx Thomas+Martin.

I tried to make it on the Trade machine but it doesn´t work (I suppose its because Chandler is injuried),but if we have a shot at this trade i´d do it in a heartbeat.

We get younger at the 4/5,we earn an expiring contract and the Kings earn a young promise (I´d trade Kevin Martin then) and a big man, who,in the worst scenario, would clean 11 millions of cap room in 2011.

Go Cats!

Would love Thompson here, but I just can't see it happening. Surely Chandler doesn't have enough value?

Chandler for Thompson and Thomas works.

We could also use our trade exception to add Augustin and take on Udrih's contract to make it more attractive. Would that be enough?? I'm not sure if the front office would want to spend that much and Udrih does have a Diop like contract especially as he is a solid backup Pg at best.

Listening to the Kings announcers on Sat night it sure does sound like he is a little out of favor and his confidence is well down in Sac.

Can't imagine the Kings would just give him away though.

I wonder if they want something like:

Nazzy and DJ
for
JT and Udrich

Charlotte – which sources say would be very motivated by any trade involving Kings second-year forward Jason Thompson – has a logjam of centers whom the Kings may inquire about: Nazr Mohammed (6-foot-10), DeSagana Diop (7-0), Alexis Ajinca (7-0) and oft-injured Tyson Chandler (7-1). The Bobcats may also have interest in the expiring contract of Kenny Thomas ($8.7 million this season), as he has been highly regarded by Charlotte coach Larry Brown since they were together in Philadelphia.

Even if this doesn't work out, I was beginning to wonder when the team would start to just think about dumping Chandler for whatever they could get -- talent, picks, cap space, etc.

I'd prefer we give up Diop out of the bunch. Chandler and Nazr are both off the books soon.

At this point, the expiring contract we'll have next year becomes the highest value we get out of him.

I'd do that.

It'd be awesome to put in TC instead for KT's expiring but I can't believe they'd be interested. Ditto with Gana.

DJ + Evans would be a good pairing offensively.

I'd do that.

Only problem I would have would be paying a back up PG (assuming we resign Felts over the summer) as much as he is getting paid. Combining Felts deal with Udrich's deal would be a LOT of coin tied up at one spot.

It'd be awesome to put in TC instead for KT's expiring but I can't believe they'd be interested. Ditto with Gana.

No doubt. I think we all agree that the big man pecking order these days is Nazzy, TC, Lexy then Gana - or has Lexy passed TC?

spectre_ wrote:DJ + Evans would be a good pairing offensively.

Totally agree.

Going into the draft I was saying that if DJ was our PG for the future then Evans would be the better fit next to him and if Felts was our PG for the future Harden would be the better fit.

I don't know that much about Thompson other than the 4 or 5 times I have seen him play each year.

He's not really a "get the ball to him deep in the post, back to the basket, and he will score" type - is he?

Udrih's contract...my only problem with that too. Least he's somewhat earning that paycheck this season. Kings might not even consider him a negative now.

If he can keep it up he should be tradable for other assets next season.

They'd probably want us to take Nocioni.

How about this:

TC/DJ/Law

for

Thompson/KT/Nocioni

Basically split TC's next season into half that for 2 seasons. It'd give us that extra 6 million of cap we desperately need next year. They aren't winning anything now and at worst they'd have a big expiring next year to play with.

I don't care for Nocioni (AT ALL) but it wouldn't hurt to have the SF depth.

Which is better?

Thompson...back to the basket type. I don't think he is, more of a banger/midrange guy. He's only 23 however and he has good size. Maybe we could develop that.

I guess it would come down to what we value more. TC's expiring contract (I mean, that is all he is these days. He's not contributing, and when he does Nazzy out plays him any ways) or a young PF with great size and mobility with some upside.

I think I would pass on:

TC/DJ/Law
for
Thompson/KT/Nocioni

What if the deal was:

Gana/DJ/Brown
for
Thompson/KT

Too big a price to pay?

Why would you pass on the TC deal? Is it that you like TC so much or hate Noc more?

That's my preferred one just because of the salary. Noc's contract actually drops a little his next 2 years and I just can't stress how BADLY we need to reduce next year's salary. I also want to hang onto Nazr, and most likely Thompson can do a lot of what TC was supposed to do.

And just think how happy Fats would be! 8-)

I can't imagine any way they take Gana. I'd hate to give up all that talent, but I think Gana's deal (considering his minimal contribution) is so bad they wouldn't do the trade if it included him.

Presti is supposed to be good isn't he?

Just put in a trade where we get screwed the worst and that'll probably be closest to what goes down (if anything).

I think the TC/DJ/Law trade makes us a much better team. I hate to lose DJ but getting Thompson who can backup the 4 and 5 spots along with the tough D of Noc would be huge. I mean this adds some young talent then 2 tough vets for a playoff run. This also allows us to go big down the stretch with some solid FT shooters. Thompson shoots over 70% and could be our center down the stretch in close games. If we do this I think we add wins this year and next.

interesting... doenst make any sense to me from a kings standpoint.

but whatever... if they want to make a deal for one of our centers for thompson, go for it. he is part of team "allied biscuit" so he would feel right at home playing next to teammates crash and diaw.

but please dont include lexy. :)

I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY don't like Noc!!

Seriously, I think that TC's expiring contract would have more value if we held onto it over the summer.

I doubt there is anything on the table too. Seems pretty funny that we just played the Kings on Sat night and a story like this is floated. Strikes me as another one of the millions of unfounded rumors that beat writters seem to come up with when they add 2 and 2 and come up with a number much larger than 4.

I feel the same way. I wouldn't trade DJ straight up for Thompson. BUT if we could move the contract of Gana at the same time?

That would be tempting.
