Here's a crazy idea...

Post#1 » by Go7enKs » Mon Feb 1, 2010 3:41 pm

I was looking the OKC Hijackers box score and man Durant is amazing. It's not that I noticed now but this guy might turn out to be one of the best in the history of the game. So, here's a crazy idea (yea, u know where I'm going...) why not trade Amare for a HUGE expiring (see T-Mac) then wait until Rich comes off the books and try to get Durant? His contract expires next year and we're gonna have a lot of salary cap by then. The only problem I see with this plan is that we are basically wasting next year and Durant would come only when Nash has just another year. Either way, we might be better off getting some cap space and shoot for next year's FA class (which should feature, if I'm not wrong, also Melo).

What do u guys think?

I could NEVER argue against getting Durant; I'd take him second in the league after LeBron. Maybe tied with CP3. BUT, part of my feeling is that OKC will be a viable place for him to stay what with their young developing talent and the fact that even with all that young'uns they are in the playoff race. He won't want to come here with our current roster minus Amar'e and Rich and Hill, and probably with Nash far enough gone that he's playing 25 mpg. To take on Durant's contract means he'd be playing next to Lopez, Duds, Dragic and EC/Lou/Frye. Yikes.

That's true. Plus we have to take into account the fact that OKC will have his Bird rights so we might sign him but they might take him back anyway. But what if Nash holds up enough, Dragic develops into a strong backup, Clark and Lopez become two solid starters and we get some cheap youngsters trading Amare and in the next drafts. We might be able to make a push. Actually I'm sure Kerr and Sarver are aware of the situation and are probably preparing some kind of plan to make a push for a 2011 FA. I wouldn't mind Melo either...

No way the Thunder don't offer him max money. This kid is a superstar. He has that drive to become better than the rest.

in the unlikely scenario Durant doesnt get an extension we can offer him max in 2011

and then watch OKC match the offer

Durant is in OKC for the next 5 years minimum

and from all he's said, consistently, he loves OKC and the guys on the team - he's real happy where he is.

That kid is a max deal waiting to happen. If the Thunder keeps improving or at least keep up with this pace then Durant won't ever hit free agency. The kid is only 21 or something and is already putting up ridiculous numbers and even if he never develops into a great defensive player, his offense alone will put him up there with the greats.

I agree with JVC as well. The Thunder are well built around Durant and they are probably a few more years of experience and one or two pieces away from championship contention.

Yep. Durant's an MVP-caliber player and I don't see why he'd leave the good thing he's got going right now.

here's another crazy idea... that i'm simply saying cause it would be an awesome move if pulled off... too bad it would NEVER happen. ever.

Apparently the Celtics are look to trade Ray Allen for a "younger SG" so they get something back from trading him away rather than losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

Wouldn't it be amazing to trade Richardson for Ray Allen? I would jizz in my pants if this went down. His contract is steep this season, but expiring. I don't know... he's getting kind of old, but...

Nash/Allen/Hill/Stoudemire/Lopez would be a pretty awesome starting lineup for the rest of the year, maybe next year or two after also.

Unfortunately the Celtics aren't idiots.
