Well, I'm game if people want to do that. E-mailing lists to me accomplishes the same thing though.

In a typical 3 year peak game, he's a god with injury issues. In a one year peak context, he's a god on level with Moses and Hakeem, scratch the injury issues. Though chronically injured most of his career, for one glorious season he managed to pull it all together.

Amazing team player, effective scorer, GREAT rebounder, out of this world defender and shot blocker. Also one of the best passing big men ever to play the game and a great playoff man with a Finals MVP to his name. Led a team full of guys most of you have never heard of to an NBA championship.

Very easy choice for me I didn't think this guy would drop to me. Jerry West. A guy with 60's eligibility that amongst other things would be a killer 3 point shooter in today's game, and would benefit from today's rules more then most old school players. Possibly the best playoff performer ever outisde of a prime Shaq, with killer defense.

Combine a deadly jump shot, tenacious defense, obsessive perfectionism, unabashed confidence, and an uncompromising will to win, and you've got Jerry West

With the last pick in the first round, the Portland Tall Firs select one of the greatest winners of all time:

Image

“On stamina alone he’d be among the top players who ever played the game,” longtime New York Knicks Coach Red Holzman once said of Havlicek. “It would’ve been fair to those who had to play him or those who had to coach against him if he had been blessed only with his inhuman endurance. God had to compound it by making him a good scorer, smart ballhandler and intelligent defensive player with quickness of mind, hands and feet.”

The 6-5 Boston Celtics star was a perpetual-motion machine, a human dynamo who was legendary for wearing out opponents with his relentless baseline-to-baseline efforts. A star at both forward and guard, Havlicek’s versatility made him perhaps the finest all-around player in the history of the NBA...

A SF in his time, the 6'5", 200+ Hondo would be a prototypical SG in today's NBA. He among the small handful of GOAT defensive players, able to guard PG/SG/SF, could shoot with both hands with three point range, rebounded like a PF, and was the primary playmaker for the bulk of his career. He's also very good in two eras, the 60's with Russell, and the 70's with Cowens. Most importantly, Havlicek had a nose for making the biggest plays on the biggest stages in the biggest games and he never, ever let an opponent outwork him. A consummate professional and GOAT conditioned player Hondo is a perfect cornerstone for any team.

Havlicek steals it!

With the first pick in the second round, the Tall Firs are both surprised and pleased to select:

Image

With so many big men going in the first round and open season on other positions beginning, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to steal two guys who usually go a lot higher. James is simply the biggest mismatch in this game and a huge consideration for any opponent. Around 6'8/265, he is bigger than anyone who will be guarding him and stronger than most centers, as well as incredibly skilled.

He posted the 3rd highest PER of all time last year to go with the highest playoff PER ever, a staggering 37.4, eclipsing '54 Mikan by four points and '77 Kareem by a full five points.

Kobe Bryant.

Can't pass up that kind of value at this late of a pick. Dominant go to scorer who together with Walton forms a dominant duo on both ends of the floor.

Karl Malone is arguably the greatest power forward of all time. Built more like a tight end than a basketball player, his size and strength made him difficult to defend in the low block, but he also filled the lane on the fast break and shot a deadly medium-range jumper. The two-time MVP finished his career with 36, 928 points second only behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He also attempted more free throws and grabbed more defensive rebounds than any player in NBA history. He was also selected to the 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and won two Olympic gold medals. As a player who consistently delivered on the court, he deserved the nickname of "The Mailman."

I am selecting 7-3, 265* C out of Jacksonville - Artis Gilmore!

His 1974/75 season: 23,6 PPG on .580/.696 shooting/16,2 RPG/2,5 APG/3,1 BPG/0,8 SPG.
All-ABA First Team, ABA All-Defensive First Team, playoffs MVP, ABA champion.

*Added 1 inch for being measured in shoes today - also 265 lbs is his more realistic adult playing weight, taken from Chicago Sun-Times.

The best defensive PG of all time, Frazier was also fantastic offensively and a great big-game performer.

First of all, AitN: I hate you.

Second of all, I see the thread and am running through a few scenarios.

Alright, going with Gary Payton. He's at least in the argument for best defensive PG of all time, one of the better trash talkers ever, a great scorer and playoff performer, and he's one of the few guys that can guard ANY PG in this league. It also doesn't hurt that he's got two decades I can use him in.
