trade idea from a knick fan

Post#1 » by Ewing33 » Mon Feb 1, 2010 10:19 pm

Boston fans, what do you think?

New York Trades: Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries
New York Receives: Tyrus Thomas, Marcus Williams, and Brian Scalabrine

Boston Trades: Ray Allen and Brian Scalabine
Boston Receives: Nate Robinson, Kirk Hinrich, and Jerome James

Chicago Trades: Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas, and Jerome James
Chicago Receives: Ray Allen and Steven Hunter

Memphis Trades: Steven Hunter
Memphis Receives: Jared Jeffries

Why for NY? We shed Jeffries contract but have to lose Nate to do it. In return we receive Tyrus on a half a year rental unless he shows he can mesh well with Lee and we have the money to keep both. I do believe putting a Lee and Thomas front court with Chandler and Gallo on the wings makes us dangerous, imagine with a good pg. Anyways this trade is about 2010, although Tyrus is intriguing. Adding Marcus Williams is a plus because he can at least try to do better then Duhon currently is, and Scalabrine will be a local favorite at all the Irish Pubs in NY. Were not making the playoffs, time to shed some salary...
New York's New Rotation
C-Lee/Hill
PF-Thomas/Harrington/Bender
SF-Gallo/Harrington/Bender
SG-Chandler/Douglas
PG-Duhon/Williams/Douglas

Why for Boston? Yeah they loose Ray Allen, but they get two real good guards in return. Kirk is a pretty solid all around NBA player with solid D that should fit right in to the starting line-up nicely. Nate will also give the Celtics a spark off the bench they have been lacking. The two guards together may bring more than Allen was to the table at this point in his career. Loosing Scalabrine only hurts if your an Irish Catholic fan living in Boston. Its also nice to note the Celtics only add Hinrich's salary since Nate and James expire at the end of the year.
Boston's New Rotation
C-Perkins/Wallace
PF-KG/Davis
SF-Pierce/Allen
SG-Hinrich/Nate/House
PG- Rondo/Nate/House

Why for Chicago? If your looking at this from the Bulls perspective, they get the best out of the deal. Yes they do loose a lot in Kirk and Tyrus, but think of what Allen brings to the table. He is a great shooter and plays solid D, he will fit beautifully along side Rose and Deng. Most importantly, Allen has an expiring contract of 19M that will make the Bulls MAJOR players at the dead line. I dont know if the Knicks would want to help the Bulls clear space considering the competition for LBJ, Wade, and Bosh but shedding Jeffries helps them as well.
Chicago's New Rotation
C- Noah/Miller
PF- Gibson/Johnson
SF- Deng/Brown
SG- Allen/Salmons
PG- Rose/Pargo

Why for Memphis? Memphis has been rumored to be looking for bench help, Jeffries is a great defender who can cover any position on the floor. He is a glue guy the Griz are going to need to make a playoff push, and if all you have to do is give up Williams and Hunter to get him then why not. Not sure if the Knicks would ask for a pick a long with Williams or if the Griz would give it to them but this seemed fair to me.
Memphis New Rotation
C- Gasol/Thabeet
PF- Randolph/Jeffries
SF- Gay/Carroll
SG- Mayo/Young
PG- Conley/Tinsley

Thoughts?

No. If Boston trades Ray Allen and gets Kirk Hinrich as a starter, I will jump in front of the nearest train. Send Tyrus Thomas our way, and I'd think about it.

This is not shabby at all. Though the more I think about Ray playing for the bulls, the more I think it's a bad idea, cuz they are missing what worked well for them last year, Ben Gorden. Thus giving them ray is giving them exactly what they need.

No. We don't get a 2 guard back. Hinrich can't guard 2's (big 2's) like Kobe/T-Mac and Robinson is no good for our system either.

I think that the Knicks would actually seriously consider this trade, Walsh wants out of Jeffries contract in the worst way and David Lee doesnt have a future in New York, if Walsh wants to even think about adding two stars this offseason there is no way he can keep Lee, so why no get more cap room to manuever rather than keep Lee for another half year?

This is terrible! I am all for trading Ray but certainly not for role players...

I'd much rather do Salmons+Hinrich for Ray and I wouldn't do that. No thanks.

Bingo. We need someone to play with R^2 for the next 5 years. Iggy at the 3 and Pierce at the 2 sounds good to me.

I'd put Iggy at the 2 and keep Pierce at the 3, Pierce is way too slow to guard anyone at the 2 (not to mention not getting any faster at age 32). Iggy is young, long, and athletic, perfect for the 2. I'm sure you meant to say that the other way around anyway though.

Celtics would only be interested in Robinson or Hinrich in exchange for other role players, not Ray Allen..

Any trade with the Knicks must include Chandler. Although he is not the pedigree of Allen, or the other potential targets mentioned (AI, Ellis, et all), his contract is much nicer (especially given his extension would occur under the new CBA.

The Knicks have potentially 2 reasons to do such a trade:
1. They absolutely need two max contract players to do a quick 180, so they would dump a contract.
2. They need some supporting cast to attract said FA's. Allen's mention of NY as a landing spot, may help a FA say yes to NY. He would give some professionalism and continuity to that franchise.

Something like: Allen for Chandler, Robinson and Curry.

It gives NYK around 14 mil in contracts going into the summer. A better shot at a vet supporting player like Allen. They aren't resigning Robinson, anyway.

For the C's they get a 23 yo wing that is athletic and can play D. Robinson helps them compete this year, then expires. Curry is a waste, but that gives Danny 2 expirings = 15 mil for next trade deadline to pick up another 'long term piece'. Chandler extends post lock out.
