Re: Ray Allen in Utah?
Um, Sheed is basically a corpse at this point in time, KG has never been a great low-post scorer and is significantly less of a threat now than he was even two years ago, and Boston isn't even top 10 in offensive efficiency this year. He would give them a huge shot in the arm, and give Rondo a finisher in the pick and roll game that he has never had. And since Ray Allen hasn't even been very far above the league average in his role this year, it doesn't hurt them that much to split his minutes between Tony Allen, Pierce and House.

erudite23,
Let me ask you a quick question.
Why would you want them to even entertain any trades?
If this team keeps playing the way they are, they are contenders.
I think they are playing the best ball this group has ever played.
I want to see them make a run.
Take a look at Denvers sched leading up to the break, Utah has a great chance of closing the gap and leading the division.

Sorry Soul Patch but I think this trade is terrible. Ray Allen has far too little left in the tank to give up a main part of a team looking at home court and possibly a 2 seed if things continue to go well.

I know that KG and Sheed aren't what they used to be but the Celtics already are paying over $20 million a year for those two for the next few years. Adding Boozer to that equation would tie up more than $30 million for the next few seasons. All for one position.

Boozer goes to Sacramento because I don't think Boston needs him. I'm not really gunho on trading Booze but I think this is a decent deal for him. Allen would fit better in our system then almost any other SG in the league and is expiring. Our front court looks kind of sketchy after the trade though.

Isn't the constant refrain on this board that "the Jazz aren't willing to take any risks"? I like how our team is playing, but really we are wasting our resources by having both Millsap and Boozer. I have seen all I need to see from Paul. He's All Star caliber. But off the bench he's not the same player, and we can't afford to play him alongside Boozer for long stretches either. So one has to be moved. I like Boozer better, he's the better player, the bigger presence physically, a better rebounder and more skilled. Millsap's only advantage is his defense. But they're close, and I believe we could get much better value for Boozer than for Millsap, so you trade Boozer.
Just because we're playing well doesn't mean we couldn't play even better. Ray Allen is a savvy vet that could bring leadership and experience to the team, while shooting lights out from the perimeter and accepting a role as the 3rd or even 4th banana on the team. He's also a solid defender at this point in his career, and his contract is expiring. He would be a good fit.
But I don't like our chances of getting anything out of Boozer during the summer, which means our best bet is to trade him now. If he gets away without any compensation, that's a huge loss to our team. His basketball value is massive.
So, while I see how making a move could disrupt what we have going, I also see the upside. Since I don't think we can do anything more than make the WCF, why not make a move that could give us the potential of coming out of the West? Getting a dynamic shooter and scorer on the wing would do that. So would getting a defensive presence in the paint. We have to fill at least one of those holes in order to be considered serious threats in the playoffs.

The Ray Allen of this year is down compared to last year and his career stats in shooting percentages. He has always been in great shape and plays decent defense. His salary is almost $20M this year which would necessitate adding more than Boozer, like CJ. Therefore, even though I have always lik3ed Allen I wouldn't do this deal. It also does not alleviate the FO desire for less luxury tax.

Re: Ray Allen in Utah?
FO stated they'd be willing to take on salary this year if it meant having a better playoff team. They're avoiding long term contracts not 20 M expiring contracts. Losing another wing helps tighten up the rotation. What would we do, playing time wise, with Allen, Brewer, Miles, Matthews, AK,and Korver as our wings?

Boozer plus KK is around 18m. Then you throw in Miles and you have 1.7 or so off the cap number, though you will have to replace them with two minimum guys, so the savings is close to nothing.

Re: Ray Allen in Utah?
I don't think trading Boozer and getting smaller helps Make a better team.
Say that trade happens, Who plays in a series against the Fakers to match up with their length?
It doesn't make sense, If you trade Boozer you need to get length back.
