Newark Nets...

Post#1 » by MazzNets » Tue Feb 2, 2010 7:42 pm

Hello all. I'm sure you don't remember me, but I used to post here a lot. Trying to finish up my degree and get my journalism career off the ground has kinda taken up most of my time.

Nevertheless, I felt compelled to bring up the fact that in today's NY Daily News there was an article that said the Nets were close to a deal that would allow them to play their final two years in NJ at Prudential Center, rather than IZOD Center.

This is huge on two fronts:

1. Prudential Center is the premiere venue in NJ, and given it's capacity for basketball games, could be sold out regularly. This is a major selling point in attracting potential UFAs. Play two years at Prudential Center, then move over to the luxurious arena in Brooklyn.

2. If the Prudential Center experiment is a success, it's very likely that a pro team could return to NJ in the future.

GREAT move by the franchise IMO. Thoughts?

Thanks Jeff. I've been keeping an eye on the team as best I can. I try to watch games when I'm hope in NJ but all of my $ goes to NHL Center Ice to watch the Devils for now. But if the Nets land John Wall, I'm going to have to reach deeper into my pockets.

Speaking of which, I think the coolest part of my entire journey was the opportunity to speak with him on the phone for 30 minutes. Granted it was a while ago, but getting the chance to go to Rupp and see him in-person was ridiculous.

I readily admit my man crush and hope we can land UK's "Jesus" so he can save us :)

It's a great thing, the Nets playing in Newark. I went to a preseason game there last year and it was a pleasure. Beautiful arena, much more accessible than the swamp, and a more receptive home crowd. Newark has a large student population so that will also go a long way; if they played in Newark when I was studying there, I would have been there all the time. This will be a boon for the Nets.

hmmmm, I wonder what Shaq thinks about having a pro team in his hometown. I wouldnt mind having grandpa shaq coming off the bench behind Lopez.
