Trade proposal: Wolves PG for Marc Gasol
Hey Guys,
I was watching the Grizzlies - Lakers game last night and I thought that Memphis would be killing the next years with a decent passing PG. I know there have been a couple of trade proposals involving Rudy Gay, but I'm looking at their need for a quality PG and our need for a defensive center.
Say Minnesota gets the first pick this summer and a look at John Wall, would we trade Rubio for Marc Gasol and the 2010 Memphis pick? Could we somehow get Marc Gasol and a sign-and-trade deal including Rudy Gay for Rubio (and maybe a first rounder)? What about Jonny Flynn for Marc Gasol straight up? Should we even look at Thabeet?
What are your thoughts?

We might, but Memphis won't because Rubio refused to work out there and doesn't want to play for them.

No. No way.
What about Jonny Flynn for Marc Gasol straight up?
I would do it. Yet again I don't think they pull the trigger. You don't trade big for small.
Should we even look at Thabeet?
We should look at whoever of those two players becomes available because they won't be able to keep both long term.

Yeah,
But could they say no to a Rubio - Mayo - Gay - Randloph lineup? Wouldn't that be the most fun team to watch in the NBA?
We get one of the best big rotations with Gasol - Jefferson starting and Love off the bench. Plus a backcourt with Flynn - Wall .....ohhoooo I'm sobbering

I think you'd have to overpay to get either most likely; Gasol has been on a mission since the trade to Memphis. He's heard all the talk about how Memphis was ripped of historically and as the younger brother, thats been eating away at him nights: "why is everybody disrespecting me? I am a great center!" Then he gets up early and drinks raw eggs and running up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art with 'Gonna Fly Now' on his ipod.
As for Thabeet, its too soon to let him go now and draw attention to the fact that University of Memphis grad Tyreke Evans was right there for the plucking, but they took Thabeet instead and now are trading him for lesser pieces not even 12 months later

Before the draft, it came out that Pau Gasol and .. was it Juan Carlos Navarro? .. both knocked Memphis as a bad place to play. Even last month, Pau praised LA as better since its more of an international city with more to do. Supposedly these statements got Rubio to nix Memphis.

@ Foye
Thanks for your take. I'm still assuming that we get Wall as a first pick and decide to trade the rights on Rubio and/or Flynn.
I would even do Flynn and Utah's mid first rounder for Gasol

Seriously, the skipping on Tyreke Evans by Memphis was monumentally dumb.
I think it's hilarious that you called him a "grad", though. Let's be honest, he'll never graduate from college.
But an Evans/Mayo backcourt would have been very nice. Plus they already had a good center.
C - Gasol
PF - Randolph
SG - Gay
SG - Mayo
PG - Evans
That would have been a much better starting line-up.

good point, I forgot only the losers stay all 4 years. "Yea, we're looking for a starting shooting guard, but to be honest the minimum educational requirement is a bachelor's degree. Thank you for your time Mr. Wade"
Gasol is untouchable for us, I don't think they'd even trade him str8 up for Big Al or Love.

Re: Trade proposal: Wolves PG for Marc Gasol
Considering Thabeet for Flynn,
The trade would be made in the summer. I don't think Memphis was expecting such a season from Marc, who has established himself as their Nr. 1 center for the near future. They are also way ahead of schedule with their current play-off run. Why not give the Thabeet project to a team like Minnesota that wont be contending for the next 1-2 years and take a young point guard like Flynn that has been starting and learning the game for a whole season......If Memphis had forseen their play this season, they wouldn't have picked Thabeet at No 2.

Um, no, but you actually have to graduate to be called a grad. It would be like saying you climbed Mt Everest because you looked at a picture of it once.
Basketball ability has absolutely nothing to do with someone's education, but without earning the degree you can't call them a grad. Tyreke Evans attended Memphis, that's it.

There's a lot of talk about Mayo being their point guard of the future.

What a colossal eff you to Rubio that would be. Don't want to play in Minny? Fine, we'll send you to the one team you asked not to draft you, and we'll make sure that the only Spaniard who's shoulder you could cry on ends up in Minny. That would send everybody around the league the message that David Kahn is a spine-crushing d-bag not to be trifled with.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

well since the wolves turned down the rockets when they were offering up aaron brooks and shane battier, why on earth would the wolves want to now deal rubio (whose value continues to rise with his strong play this season in spain) for just marc gasol?
very poor proposal

no its true, only loser basketball players stay all 4 years, otherwise the degree is totally pointless unless they're one of the ones that promised his mama he'd go back and get his degree

Actually, its a pretty decent proposal, I think. Gasol is a true center, and a talented one too. 15/9 is no fluke.

Re: Trade proposal: Wolves PG for Marc Gasol
I think Mayo and Evans could co-exist no matter who's labeled the "PG".
