I was pretty frustrated when I posted yesterday (my head tells me the loss helps our draft standing, but my heart/gut still hates the losing), so I didn't explain myself very well.
I agree that shooters shouldn't stop shooting completely when they miss several shots. But shooting is about rhythm and confidence. If the shot isn't falling, it can start to get into your head--throw off your rhythm and erode your confidence. I was just saying that there are other ways to regain your rhythm/confidence such as crashing the boards, looking to set up teammates, or playing closer to the basket. I have to admit I didn't see the game, but from what I know of Jamison, he's quick to shoot (whether he's on or off) so I assumed he was shooting early & often to get back in the flow.
I had a kneejerk reaction to blame the loss on Jamison's 2-17 performance. But as montestewart pointed out in another thread the whole team missed most of their shots in the 4th quarter, so there are other reasons for the loss than Jamison's shooting.

Re: Antawn Jamison is a joke
Jamison's 2-17 is terrible -- one of the worst shooting nights of the past few years. Going through "worst shooting nights" has proven to be pretty comical. I looked for games in which a player had at least 15 FGA, and shot .333 or worse -- so, 5-15 or worse.
This season, Ben Gordon shot 1-16 against Dallas, including 0-6 from 3pt range.
In 2006, Mark Madsen -- yes, THAT Mark Madsen -- shot 1-15, including 0-7 from 3pt range. He also shot 0-2 from the FT line. So, that's 1-17 on the day, including free throws. Wow.
Eight different players (including Jamison) have shot 2-17 since the 04-05 season. The leading scorer in that group was Tyrus Thomas, who scored 11 points (7-8 from the FT line).
Most FGA on a bad shooting night (who else?) Iverson. He shot 5-28 against the Lakers in 2005. Second on the list (who else?) Arenas, who shot 4-22 against Minnesota in 2007. Gil's actually a two-time 4-22 guy -- he also did it in 2006 against Dallas.
Richard Hamilton has a 3-22. Lebron went 3-20 at home against Philly back in 05. Dirk(!) went 3-18 in 2008 against Detroit. Tim Duncan (selfish punk) went 3-18 here in Washington in 2005.
Looking just at this season, here are the worst shooting days:
1. Ben Gordon -- 1-16
2. Antawn Jamison, Mike Dunleavy -- 2-17
3. Danny Granger -- 2-16
4. Vince Carter, Al Thornton, James Harden, Baron Davis, Amare Stoudemire, Aaron Brooks -- 2-15
5. Corey Maggette -- 3-22
6. Kevin Durant -- 3-20
7. Chris Kaman -- 3-19
8. Michael Beasley, Terence Williams -- 3-17
9. Peja -- 3-16
10. Kobe -- 4-21
In terms of shot attempts on a bad shooting night, Jamison's 17 ties for 31st. Number one? Chauncey Billups shot 6-25 on Feb. 1 against Sacramento. Friggin shot jacker.

I don't have a problem with his horrible game. It happens. It's the fact that he was allowed to bleed all over himself when Blatche was having a good game. There are VERY FEW players in this league that I consider "un-sittable" in crunch time no matter how bad they're playing. LeBron, Kobe, and Howard come to mind. Twan is FAR from one of them.
...and let's be honest. About 7 of those shots, El Capitwan had absolutely no business taking.

That's exactly how I feel.....Jamison is a good player, but he hasn't earned that right to play no matter what.

I don't know why your team is running the guy almost 40 minutes every night. It's really destroying any value he had in a trade, especially since he comes up wincing or limping once a week at this point.

Possibly the dumbest thread I've ever seen at RealGM.
