He's at least in the argument for best defensive PG of all time, one of the better trash talkers ever, a great scorer and playoff performer, and he's one of the few guys that can guard ANY PG in this league. It also doesn't hurt that he's got two decades I can use him in.

A-HAH!

With balance and versatility in mind:

Jason Kidd is the next selection. The year won't be decided yet because he could very well be in either the 90's or the 00's, and I want to be able to maintain some flexibility there.

The Tall Firs select Alonzo Mourning with the first pick in the third round.

While there are other great big men on the board, Zo stood out to me as the obvious choice. His ability to anchor an elite, modern defense is a tremendous asset. Mourning functioned as the #1 offensive option for most of his career and was the second only to Shaq during his remarkable prime.

The real clincher for me was how eye-popping Zo's stats were on one of the slowest paced teams of all-time. Adjusted for pace, he is as if not more effective than many centers taken before him.

Alright, we select Kevin McHale.

We wanted a low post offensive option to complement Bill Walton, and Kevin Mchale fits the bill, so to speak. There was another player we considered here, but Mchale also offers All-NBA defensive ability.

He's sometimes knocked for his rebounding ability, but he was a 10 rebound per game player in the year selected in spite of playing with a number of other great rebounders, namely Larry Bird and others I will not name as they have not been selected yet. Amazing 1 year peak:

26/10 on 60% FG shooting and 83.6 FT%, with 2.2 swats per game to top it off.

I'm happy to select the "Human Highlight Film"

Image

A nine-time NBA All-Star and the winner of two NBA Slam Dunk Contests, Wilkins registered 26,668 points and 7,169 rebounds in his NBA career. His career points total ranks him ninth in career scoring, and he is one of just 14 players to total 25,000 points or more for a career.

Bob Lanier.

Somewhere, TrueLAFan is celebrating, and Warspite is screaming I should've picked the defensive C left in the 60s.

I'll take Jerry Lucas.

Taking a gamble here, but his shooting and rebounding next to Hakeem are perfect fits. He wasn't an extraordinary defender by any means, but he knew how to play the game, and was regarded as one of the more smarter defenders in the league. His fit is worth the gamble, especially considering he fills that 60's void, that's likely to go on a run in the next round.
