Possible Rumor: Ray Allen to NYK for Lee and Nate

Post#1 » by eitanr » Wed Feb 3, 2010 6:30 pm

Saw a small rumor on the trade forum, unsure of how legit the source is but here's the link:

http://www.nba2.info/index.php?option=c ... s&Itemid=3

The deal would probably be Ray Allen and some salary fillers, namely Scal and House for Curry, Jeffries, Nate Robinson, and David Lee.

Celts add two hefty 2011 deals, but perhaps add enough depth to contend now. Unsure if the deal actually makes them that much better right now.

PF K. Garnett/ D. Lee/ G. Davis
SF P. Pierce/ J. Jeffries/ B. Walker
C K. Perkins/ R. Wallace/ S. Williams/ E. Curry
SG T. Allen/ M. Daniels/ JR Giddens
PG R. Rondo/ N. Robinson

Looks made up, why would either team do it? We'd really suck at shooting guard and they'd really suck at power forward/center.

According to the checker, Lee and Nate have to agree to trades, and in doing so forfeit their Bird rights. In other words, little chance of resigning either player- so we essentially roll over Allen's expiring to next season (Curry and Jeffries) in exchange for a talent downgrade..

However, I would do Ray for Curry/Jeffries if the Knicks threw in Chandler and Gallinari..

That's the thing with all of these Ty Thomas, Nate, etc trade targets, Celts do not get Bird Rights to resign them. At least that's my understanding.

^That's the thing, there hasn't been on credible trade with Ray that *hasn't* been a talent downgrade...so why do it just to do it?

LOL talk about an obscure webpage I have never heard of. It looks like one of those webpages you get to after you click on one of those banners by accident that says "You won 1,000,000.!"
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

I don't know the legitimacy of the rumors. I still think if Boston is going to deal Ray, the best place could be Philly. If the Sixers can't unload Brand with Iggy for expirings, they may settle for Green, Kapono, and Iggy for pure expirings. Ray Allen and Scal for Iggy, Kapono, and Green works.

^eh...I still think it's a talent downgrade, and I'm always leery of disrupting team chemistry mid-season with a big trade...

What Boston is really lacking in the end of the day is pure offense. They need someone who can explode offensivley on the roster. Pierce's days of dropping 30+ seem to be dwindling or gone. Ditto for KG, Sheed, and Ray Ray. This is probably why the Monta Ellis rumor started.

Truth is a poor man's version of Ellis could be found in little Nate who could immensly help Boston's offensive woes off the bench. The big 3 could still be entact and the C's would have eat up Jeffries' deal. This does seem like the most sensible option.

You do with Tyrus Thomas because he is on his rookie deal. You are correct about Nate and Lee though

If we did the deal for those two terrible contracts they would absolutely have to buyout ray so we could have him back

Although I see the appeal of trading Curry the Knicks don't need to in order to offer two max contracts over the summer. They only need to move Jeffries. To that end, I would offer the following deal.

Scal, Eddie, Tony and JR for Jeffries, Jordan Hill and Toney Douglas. Celtics starting lineup is unaffected, Jeffries can sub in for Pierce. Hill and Douglas are unproven rookies but what little I have seen of them I like what I see. Hill is a PF so if the Knicks sign Bosh he would be redundant. He has a nice jump shot and if the Knicks hold onto him he will always be "the player the Knicks picked over Brandon Jennings". Toney Douglas has been described as a Ben Gordon type player so I assume he can backup both guard positions.

It works in the checker
Trade ID #5428087
and the team change in stats are pretty even.
