Re: Possible Rumor: Ray Allen to NYK for Lee and Nate
Uh... we would just lose both Nate and Lee in the off-season, rediculous rumor
I was all for bringing nate in on the cheap to help the bench, but we trade ray if we can get a young star and actually keep them, not get a good guy like lee for a half season rental

Boy, trading for Curry is certainly thinking outside the box. Not sure even Ainge has enough guts to make that move.

Re: Possible Rumor: Ray Allen to NYK for Lee and Nate
It's BS. Well, sort of. The Lee/Robinson trade is just speculation by the writer of that blog. He's citing Yahoo Sports, but all Adrian Wojnarowski said is that the Celtics have initiated trade talks (according to some league sources), and that they'd be looking to get an expiring in return, along with a young guard to replace him. That way, they'd at least be getting something back for him if/when they don't re-sign Ray this summer. If he were to be traded, Ray expressed an interest in Miami or NY. Here's the link to the Yahoo article:
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl ... &type=lgns
Then the dude on nba2.info is guessing that perhaps a trade to New York would involve David Lee, but I wouldn't put much stock into anything he says, considering he doesn't even understand the salary cap:
"The Celts reportedly want a younger guard who cost less cash and an expiring contract so they have some money to play with this summer when the cup of free-agent options will overflow.
After all, if the team keeps the 34-year-old Allen, it'll open up a $20 million hole in the team's salary structure this offseason and Boston doesn't want to totally miss out on that. No matter how you slice it, the team isn't likely to re-sign Allen this summer."
http://www.nba2.info/index.php?option=c ... s&Itemid=3
Having $20 million come off the books does NOT mean that they will be $20 million under the cap. The Celtics can't be a player in 2010 free agency unless Pierce opts out and isn't re-signed or they trade KG for an expiring. And Ray Allen's expiring wouldn't have any impact on those anyway.

Only trade with NY that I would approve is:
Harrington, Robinson, Jeffries
for
Allen+any of our expiring contracts+2011 first round draft pick
Allen returns after buyout
RONDO/ROBINSON
ALLEN/DANIELS or HOUSE
PIERCE/JEFFRIES
KG/HARRINGTON
PERKINS/WALLACE
Harrington, Robinson, Jeffries
for
Allen+any of our expiring contracts+2011 first round draft pick
Allen returns after buyout
RONDO/ROBINSON
ALLEN/DANIELS or HOUSE
PIERCE/JEFFRIES
KG/HARRINGTON
PERKINS/WALLACE

Re: Possible Rumor: Ray Allen to NYK for Lee and Nate
Yeah, that reads like more speculative talk. No one really knows...
In my opinion, I'll like to retain Ray. I'm a Ray Allen fan. But, Ainge would be remiss if he didn't at least consider the option of trading Ray's expiring contract. I mean don't do as Dumars did and sat on his hands while the trade deadline came and went and he did nothing with Iverson's and Rasheed Wallace's expiring contracts.
I seriously doubt Ray would be traded to Miami or New York. And Lee and Robinson both want huge contracts. Contracts that New York wasn't willing to sign either to last off-season.
Dallas wants help at shooting guard, hence their interest in Kevin Martin. But I don't think Sacramento will end up trading Martin right now. Why not try to deal for Josh Howard? The only deal that makes sense is Ray for Howard and Gooden but I doubt Dallas goes for that. They probably would like to move either Dampier's or Carroll's contract with Howard.

You do with Tyrus Thomas because he is on his rookie deal. You are correct about Nate and Lee though
One other issue is that while Lee and Robinson would lose Bird rights that was addressed somewhat by the contract the Knicks gave them as they aren't likely to have bird rights this offseason because the Knicks would have to renounce them to get under the cap. While Lee doesn't have bird rights he can still get a 20% bump on 7 mil with 8% raises from whatever team he is traded using the non qualifying FA exception to my guess is that he isn't going to see a lot more than 5 years 50 mil in FA. In the case of Robinson he could get a 5 for 25 without a team having to use its MLE. So in the case of Lee specifically it isn't the usual loss of Bird Rights situation with a player on a QO.
But this is still a terrible idea for Boston love or hate Glen Davis upgrading to David Lee is not worth Ray Allen. We have to get a starter on the wing back for Ray he cannot be 5'8".

Dallas definately doesn't want to trade Dampiers contract, it's an amazingly valuable chip this offseason. Next year Dampier's contract is totally unguarenteed if he fails to play 2100 minutes in the 70 games where he plays the most minutes (and Dallas is making sure he fails to meet the condition), this means Dallas can make a sign and trade with anyone and the other team doesn't even have to take on any salary for that year.

You don't take all that salary off the Knicks hands without getting Gallinari or Chandler.

Re: Possible Rumor: Ray Allen to NYK for Lee and Nate
I have no problem with trading Ray (though I would be sad to see him go) but if we do it had better be something that makes us better now, keeps our salary situation good, or gets us young talent. This trade does none of these things really IMO.

I would do Mike Miller, Randy Foye and Nick Young for Ray. Ainge acquires a young shooting guard with a cheap contract and expiring contracts. But I would resign Foye.
If not for the Arenas suspension, I think Washington might have been open to trading Foye.

Caron Butler and Randy Foye sure, but Nick Young is setting a record for most one dimensional player ever and Mike Miller is made of glass and needs an extension. This trade also does just about nothing for the Wizards.

Of course it is - NY fans & media have been making up trades for months about dumping their most useless contracts (Curry and Jeffries) for expirings.
In this deal - since they lose Bird Rights, both Lee and Nate must approve. That would also mean that without Bird Rights and Celtics over cap, Celts could only offer Lee the full MLE next season. Oh, and Lee was asking for $12 million last off-season with no takers
The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.
