Bears talk to 49ers' Day for QB coach

The Chicago Bears continue to try to fill out their offensive coaching staff, interviewing San Francisco 49ers quality control coach Shane Day for their quarterbacks coach position on Wednesday at Halas Hall.
Day spent the past three seasons with the 49ers as a quality control coach. He worked with new Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz when Martz was in the same position with the 49ers in 2008.
Prior to joining the 49ers, Day spent two seasons as the assistant quarterbacks and quality control coach at the University of Michigan.
Quarterbacks coach is the last offensive coaching position for the Bears to fill after hiring Martz, Mike Tice (offensive line) and Mike DeBord (tight ends).
The search for a defensive coordinator continues.

A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

Day Interviews For QB Job

Shane Day is interviewing at Halas Hall today to become the Bears' quarterbacks coach.
Day spent the past two seasons as the 49ers' offensive quality control coach. That's where he met Mike Martz, who was the 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2008. His job with the 49ers required him to work closely with the offensive coaching staff while they compiled the weekly game plan. He was also in charge of daily practice reports and helped out with the offensive line.
Before the 49ers, Day spent two seasons at Michigan as assistant quarterbacks' coach and quality control. In that role, he worked with the younger quarterbacks on the Wolverine's roster.
49ers coach Mike Singletary said earlier this offseason that he would not let assistant coaches interview for non-head coaching jobs but allowed Day to come to Chicago. If Day is offered the job, which might be a formality at this point, it would be a major promotion, which likely factored into Singletary's decision.
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

Former Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner used his Bears ties to find another job. Turner on Thursday was hired by Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh to be an assistant coach the Cardinal.
Harbaugh made the announcement at a recruiting reception, but did not specify Turner's role. It is believed he will be offensive coordinator.
Turner was Harbaugh's offensive coordinator for one year in 1993 before the Bears let Harbaugh go, and the two stayed in contact since that time.
Turner previously was the offensive coordinator at Stanford from 1989 to 1991 under head coach Denny Green. He has California roots and family living in the area.
