"What we have to do is balance the entire equation," Kerr said. "Are we good enough as a team going forward with what we have? Will we be good enough if he opts out? How much will we have to pay him if he opts out and wants to come back? What's the new collective bargaining agreement going to look like?"
Kerr explained the approaching new collective bargaining agreement could have huge implications if the team makes the wrong decisions now.
"There could potentially be a much smaller salary cap," Kerr said. "So what if you're locked up long term with a huge contract and you have a hard salary cap and no flexibility to improve your team? We have to think about all this stuff, and some of it is a little cloudy because we don't know what the new CBA will look like."
Kerr said he believes Amare is playing better because he is on the road, and away from some of the constant trade questions surrounding him. He said the team knows he still has a lot to offer.
"He's still a very productive player," Kerr said. "He's a starter on the All-Star team, he's 20 plus points every single night, and he's the perfect guy to play with Steve Nash for our offense in terms of just catching in the lane and finishing. He brings a lot of great things to the table for us. There's no question."

Re: Kerr on Amare and the CBA
i like this staement.
kerr is right this time. and i know that there will be alot going till the dead line.
but at the end we will be in a better position. i believe amare know that the new cba will kill his demand for max contract so opt in is the best he can do and extent with the suns on a gasol like level.

Re: Kerr on Amare and the CBA
When asked how the team's thinking would be impacted if Stoudemire decides to pick up his player option for next season, Kerr said it would affect it dramatically.
"One of the reasons that we're in this situation is that his agent negotiated the opt-out whenever he signed that deal, five or six years ago, which gives him all the leverage," Kerr said. "The fact that he can get up and go this summer, and we get nothing in return, that absolutely factors in."

Re: Kerr on Amare and the CBA
Amare is acting like he wants to be a Sun and the unintelligent fan would probably believe him. He's killing any trade to teams he doesn't wanna go to. Once he opts out and gets offered a huge contract by New Jersey he'll be on the first plane there. Why do you think he told the NY Post he'd like to play for the Nets? Amare's agent is smart, they know exactly what they're doing.
