I honestly think it would take less effort to make the extra effort with JR. With a trade there's all sorts of random things that could happen and it's not guaranteed that we wouldn't have a worse problem.....even among remaining players, with chemistry.
With JR we have this goal of maximizing his good and minimizing his bad, and having that goal pays off with wins, comebacks impossible with other offensive sets, - and I think we actually get more for JR if we're patient and let him develop.
There's an arrested development with him at times where it appears it's all his fault because of his attitude - but in fact he does not get rewarded all the time, or even recognition, when he has an outstanding game.
Whenever JR has been encouraged to do something he does it very very well. When he's been scolded and told negative this and negative that....he doesn't respond like a pro.
The weakness we have in him, and the only weakness, is his ability to see past the negative bs that goes on all the time (life happens) and respond in a productive way. At the same time, those around him need to keep encouraging him to do the little things and watch him bloom as a player (and yes, have an even higher player value by end of season).
It would be a sellout move to give up now.
But....it does hinge on JR's responsiveness. I am assuming he will make better decisions with a higher importance placed on it. If JR doesn't respond, all that hope is moot.

Reminds me of Nate in NY. Both of these guys just need to stop pounding there chest and just play ball. JR when focused is unstoppable at times!!!
GSW had that with Stephen Jackson. Real talent but the core of his game is emotion and adrenalin as opposed to a more intellectual craftsmanship thing. Players who can go from asset to liability and back with their mood swings and temper are hard to predict, hard to manage. You want some fire and intensity, but not a meltdown, not stupid ego games or pouting. Managing a loose cannon is tough on a coach in so many ways.

I dont want to start a separate thread for this so I'll ask it here: What is Afflalo's upside? Can he be a 13-15 ppg scorer next year ?

Afflalo could be a 13-15 ppg scorer right now, he just does not get the touches to reach that, which I do not expect to change next year. For the foreseeable future he is going to stay the 4th or 5th option on the court while with the starters, and 3rd or so when on the court with the bench.

Not to get paranoid, but a reason why Dallas hasn't been a big threat to us is because the unmotivated Josh Howard and the up and down Drew Gooden.
Now, they're about to replace those two with Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood. Coming from a losing team, Caron will definitely be motivated playing for contenders like Mavs. He will definitely contribute and bring a lot more to the table than Josh to the Mavs and replace the so so Drew Gooden with Haywood, possibly a top post defender after Kendrick Perkins and a 10 rpg... man... if I were Kroenke I would definitely find ways to stop that trade from happening.
If Mavs do this trade, they can be so dangerous. They cannot find a more perfect trade than this... what lucky bastards. And when Marc Stein is the one reporting, you know it's going down. WTF??????

He has been right around that mark for the past several games, so yeah, he could and is a 13-15 ppg guy.
