Frustrated Larry Foote will test free-agent market
Typical lions thier letting another good player get away from them,i liked him.
Foote, 29, returned to his hometown on a one-year contract last May after spending his first seven NFL seasons in Pittsburgh. He started 14 games in 2009, leading the Lions with 99 tackles, including nine for loss and two sacks.
And the two-time Super Bowl champ has proven durable, starting 94 consecutive games before suffering a foot injury in late December that forced him to miss the end of last season.

Levy played well enough to move to MLB. i really respect Foote for coming here and trying to help his struggling hometown team, but he isnt in the long term plans.
So im gunna guess that Sims - Levy - Peterson is our starting 3 next year with Dizon kinda fitting in where he can, and maybe Follett.

Yeah, Foote wanted to stay but he wanted a long term commitment and he's just not in our long term plans. So it's time for him to move on. I have no ill feelings though and hope he catches on somewhere.
DeAndre Levy is our starting MLB next season. The rest of our linebackers are up in the air. Will Peterson get his money? Will Sims still fit the system? Will Dizon/Follett move up? We'll see.

they should dump peterson and his 7.5 mill then resign foote ,it will be hard to find another 99 tackles from another linebacker.

Agreed, Peterson is not in our future plans either....
I'd like to see what teams might give for him. IMO, he'd be perfect going to a 3-4 team....

Im no expert on contracts, really correct me if i am wrong, but you cant just "dump" 7.5 million dollars. We owe him money. We dont owe Foote money. Truth be told i would rather have Foote, but since we want to switch Levy to MLB anywho, it makes sense to start that transition next year.
I would be cool with dumping Peterson off on someone as well and either drafting a OLB or letting Dizon and Follett fight for it. but i dont see that happening

If we dump Peterson, let's hope to God Weatherspoon drops to the 2nd.

Let Foote leave, he wasn't as good as expected and Levy is an emerging stud. Foote is clearly a 3-4 guy anyways.

Just another example of Mayhew wasting time and money and detracting from growing the team by wasting time on guys that we can't win a SB with. If he doesn't make sense now, then why did he make sense then? Answer, because Mayhew doesn't have the logical foresight required to give us a leg up. He's made dozens of transactions now that have slowly stunted us that are all for naught. That is exactly the opposite of how you should build a football team.

Per Larry Foote after signing with the Steelers, per the Detroit News from mlive:

"You can't really explain it until you go through it," he said. "You talk about dog days. Those were dog days, especially being a competitive person and losing. But I made some good relationships and it was good going home playing there. I'm just glad I'm back and thank God I didn't sign a longer deal there."

Re: Frustrated Larry Foote will test free-agent market
He got outplayed down the stretch by Levy, wasn't asked to return for a long contract like he wanted, and now he tries to talk down the Lions. Good riddance.

Re: Frustrated Larry Foote will test free-agent market
He never got outplayed by Levy, imo. He was our best player this year. He actually ranked in the top 5 of all LB's in the NFL in yards per run on all his stops.... with an average of 2.3 yards.
Basically, out of all Larry Foote's tackles against the run, on average, opposing RB's only got 2.3 yards before Foote stopped him. That's 3rd or 4th in the NFL by all linebackers. Not to shabby.

And he also quoted a couple weeks ago that he don't think Levy is ready to carry the load. I kinda believe it. I mean, yeah... Levy was great, but he was only a back up all season. Absolutely no pressure. I'm not sure that he can come in the middle and lead a defense right yet.

Re: Frustrated Larry Foote will test free-agent market
Not sorry to see him go at all. Poor schematic fit and it sure sounds like he was the zero in leadership that Kowalski made him out to be last fall.
He was the best player on the Lions up to Halloween, then he tailed off. Where it really stood out was his inability to get outside the tackle box to make plays. Levy did much better flowing outside. I do worry about Levy's ability to handle the calls and have more responsibility but Foote was not the long term answer either, might as well find out if Levy can do it.
