DANIELS WANTS TO RE-SIGN WITH C
Marquis Daniels has seen enough to know that he likes where he is.
In spite of spending the majority of his one-year contract on the sidelines with a thumb injury, Daniels already knows he would like to re-sign with the Celtics this summer.
“The locker room is great, it’s a great atmosphere, the coaching staff, everything is good,” he told WEEI.com prior to the Celtics – Heat game, despite a recent claim from Rajon Rondo that the team was having chemistry issues. “So it’s something that I’d like to be part of. Hopefully it will work out. If not, then I have to deal with everything that happens.”
Daniels likes the winning mentality of the Celtics community, from his teammates to the coaching staff, front office to the fans. The city’s winning tradition is something he would like to remain a part of.
At the same time, he has a very realistic outlook on his current situation. He knows what he can control and what is out of his hands. While he is eager to get back on the court (he has missed 27 games and hopes play before the All-Star break), he isn’t dwelling on the fact that he hasn’t been able to.
“There’s no frustrations. It’s part of the game,” he said. “I just go out there and play. I can’t worry about trying to do more than what you’re supposed to because that’s when you start playing bad and making things worse for yourself. I’ve just got to go out there and do what I do, and that’s playing defense, getting guys open, and doing my job. That’s the only thing I have to worry about.”
Daniels won’t get caught up in the length of future contracts, either. So whether he is offered another one-year deal or something longer than that, he’ll stick with doing his job and let everyone else do their own.
“I don’t think about stuff like that,” he said. “I worry about things that I can control, and that’s not one of them. I just go out there and play. I can control how I play when I get out there. As far as what someone wants to do, as far as deal-wise, I let my agent and the front office talk about that.”

1. You've got the article pasted three times in your post.
2. Thanks for posting it.
3. MD, you're welcome to come back, but that $2mm you signed for this season appears right. If they cannot find a starter level player for the MLE in the offseason, definitely re-sign him.

Re: DANIELS WANTS TO RE-SIGN WITH C
If we take into account that salary for him will go from MLE I would resign him for 2 mio and than try to find a pg for 4 mio if possible. Also I would resign House for 2-3 mio and Ray for 6-7 mio.
RONDO/4 mio pg
Allen/House
PIERCE/Daniels 2 mio
KG/DAVIS
PERKINS/WALLACE
4 mio pg:
-It got to be big pg, good defender, good passer...that he can guard sg, when Eddie guarding pg.
Blake
Ridnour
Roger Mason...if he could play pg
**Other option is resigning T.Allen and than we could use ful MLE on a really good veteran player..lets say Mike Miller. Resign Ray for 6-7 mio to be 6th man. Dont resign House, just a veteran pg who could run 2nd unit
RONDO/veteran pg
M.Miller/Allen
PIERCE/T.Allen
KG/DAVIS
PERKINS/WALLACE
RONDO/4 mio pg
Allen/House
PIERCE/Daniels 2 mio
KG/DAVIS
PERKINS/WALLACE

Re: DANIELS WANTS TO RE-SIGN WITH C
He wants to re-sign and I just want him to play. But seriously we can actually re-sign him at a 20% raise so we can even give him a one year deal at 2.4 mil without touching the MLE and he would be early Bird the year after that.

Re: DANIELS WANTS TO RE-SIGN WITH C
Klemen, IMO, if they don't trade him before the deadline, re-sign Ray, then re-sign MD, House, and TA. Sign Ridnour. Figure out during the season who fits best as the backup 2, House or TA, deal the other along with Big Baby at the deadline for another big or solution at SG.
I still want to see how a second unit of MD, House, TA will function. If MD can successfully run the halfcourt offense, I like the possibilities. But I think the long term swap needs to be House for a Ridnour type.

Re: DANIELS WANTS TO RE-SIGN WITH C
Us fans really haven't been able to see Marquis at his best, but I think Daniels is a great player to have around and I hope we find a way to bring him back. We'll need to dip into the MLE to do so, something I assume we'd consider unless a better younger 2/3/4 is somehow available.

Re: DANIELS WANTS TO RE-SIGN WITH C
I think the C's will resign Daniels next year and I think he'll sign a similar type of Contract that Big Baby has now (of course that will dictate how he comes back from injury).
House is gone. There's no reason to resign him for additional money or even the same money.
TA might not even be around here if danny makes a move and pulls a trigger on a trade. If he is around though I think TA stays with the C's and I think Danny signs him. I expect Ray to sign for 6 to 7 mill per year.
But getting back to the original subject. Daniels is the player that the C's need. You'll see what i mean after the all-star break. He was playing hurt at least 10 games before he went down but he brings those role player intangibles that Posey brought for us. You'll see.

Great point, Sully. 2.4 million just might be enough to do it. But, if he goes on a run in the playoffs, watch out. He could easily have a Pietrus-like effect on a playoff series, and some team might find that more valuable than 2.4.

House HAS to be the odd man out. He only does one thing and he's doing that one thing at a 5-year low right now. His other relevant stats are also at 5 year lows as well. And then there's everything he can't do and all the compromises those things entail and the way we have to substitute around them.
All we need is a somebody with size who can defend, dribble and hit threes. Basically, Lester Hudson, or somebody like him.

I agree with sully. I actually think a 2 year deal at 5 mio makes sense. He would expire the same year as KG, Sheed and we wouldn`t have to use our MLE to resign him.
Of course, he still needs to prove himself this season...

One of Daniels or T.Allen will stay.
I would go with Daniels...he is a bigger offensive threat, can play one on one, can penetrate to the rim, nice midrange floated, can post up, can defend...only think T.Allen has over Daniels is explosiveness...For same money 2-3 mio Daniels!

Maybe. I would not be surprised at all to see a Ray Allen/Mike Miller SG combination for the Celtics next year. Ainge loves offense and Doc Rivers loves Mike Miller. I think Marquis stays at about $2.0 million. If that is the case then there is no room for Tony Allen.
Maybe TA stays as a $2.0 million defensive SG, we'll see.

Well, as his primary advantage over Tony is taking care of the basketball, I would say he can contribute in more ways on offense, but I'm not ready to say he's a bigger offensive threat if your talking about scoring. Because of his desire to draw contact TA has a significantly higher percentage of FT attempts per shot and thus a higher scoring efficiency as they both shoot at similar FG percentages. In fact, TA's lowest season scoring efficiency rate is greater than Daniels' highest.
I could just as easily make the case that TA creates more turnovers on defense (his offensive turnovers obviously mitigate some of the possessions gained here) and is better at fighting through picks than Daniels and probably anyone on the team.
For a team with a lack of ball handlers, Daniels has more value. But this is truly a case of eye of the beholder to say that Daniels is flat out the better ballplayer.

Re: DANIELS WANTS TO RE-SIGN WITH C
TA is more the aggressive player both on offense and defense whereas Daniels is more like a mini Joe Johnson. Both guys are pretty decent IMHO. I'd like to see them get more burn and Ray Allen less.
