Re: Heinsohn's Free Agent Ratings
Amare never came back from his injuries. Prior to being hurt he was a certifable monster - I never seen a guy like him before. You threw the ball to him ANYWHERE around the lane and he would turn it into a dunk. That Amare is long gone - and not worth paying top dollar too.
That's why the PP comparison sucks. Physically he never had any real trouble and only now is starting to lose some explosiveness in a more gradual way. But he never relied on it to such an extent that the young Amare did..

I can't help but think that those saying Amare is good simply haven't watched him play extensively. I used to live in Phoenix and have had Amare on a couple fantasy teams. I've watched him play...a lot. Trust me when I say he has an incredibly low basketball IQ, lacks a motor, and doesn't have "it." He simply relies on his athleticism to get his stats. Without Nash, he would be exposed...big time.
And I won't even get started on his defense. It is atrocious. I wish I could say I was exaggerating but I'm not. If he were to ever come to Boston, I suspect the vast majority of fans would quickly sour on him.

Tommy is of course right. The guys he said no to, he was saying he wouldn't pay them a max deal. Those are the guys you end up stuck with and keep you middle of the back for a decade.
