Grunfeld is a worse GM than Isiah Thomas was. Isaiah Thomas overpaid players and actually drafted well. Grunfeld overpays players and can't draft worth a damn.

But still

ITS IMPOSSIBLE

You've convinced me. Sign Thomas to a veteran minimum contract and let's see what he's got left. Just don't let him coach.

Ramona Shelburne of ESPNLosAngeles.com asked the Clippers for comment and Tweeted the following:

"Just checked with Clippers brass on the report about Isiah and got an ALL CAPS denial," wrote Shelburne.

His coaching when he had decent players was pretty good. His GMing was the problem.

The year before he took over Indiana, the 56-win Pacers were in the finals, the year after he left, the 61-win Pacers made it to the ECF, during his three years, they weren't too far above .500. He's the Stephon Marbury of coaches, looking good with a bad record. In the few full games I've watched him coach, I saw nothing to make me think otherwise, and I got the impression that players didn't like him. He's not a players coach, he's not an Xs and Os coach, and his leadership skills off the court are abysmal. He's not a good coach.

NY draft picks under Thomas were pretty good, especially Lee and Ariza, but I have a hard time understanding how the Knicks were managed (other than horribly) and I don't know whether he figured out those picks himself.

I think he's out of the NBA for good, unless a lockout produces an NBA Legends circuit.

At least you aren't the Clippers.

Only thing worse for Wiz fans would be firing Ernie and replacing him with Zeke...

After thinking about this thread, I wonder (and not to sound too much like Krizko)...

I fear the situation is this...nobody of any merit really wants to be in DC, (IMHO, one of the true basketball meccas in the country) because of poor management. It has been going on for countless years- after we won the championship. Mr Pollin was trying so hard to win another one that he forgot how he did it that one time. He became enamored with Wes Unseld, who has only ever been a great player (and honestly, it should have ended there). All the following years have been plagued by the inability to think rationally.

As they sit now (at yet another crossroads) the question is this - can Wizards front office just do the right thing at the right time? Can they show some patience and let good young players develop? Look around the league, see all the former Bullet/Wizard players having good careers. Do it. Count them. Does this mean they had no talent when they were here, or found it where they went from here? Look at our roster here now, at the young guys sitting on the bench. How many of them are going to find their skills elsewhere? The team of players may not need to be blown up, but the the front office team certainly does. When new ownership (Ted Leonsis or whoever) does finally take over, they need to clean house. GM, player personnel director, coach and ALL of the assistants. Only then is there hope for the future, because it looks awfully bleak right now under any of the scenarios discussed here.

Is DC snake-bit as a sports town? Only if you believe in the supernatural. It's nothing good management can't fix. However, they need to be committed to winning from top to bottom. This goes for all Washington sports teams, some of which spend to much for much of nothing (Redskins), to another that has a hard time opening the pocketbook (Nats). Good management won't allow financial mistakes to be made. Look at the Lakers with all their money and their ability to get marquee players at the drop of a hat, and compare them to the Knicks who have all the money in the world available and can't put a reasonble team on the floor. It's all about management.

IIRC, Mitch kupchack was here in DC and they let him get away as well (for Unseld @ GM?). That is what has to change, the ability to recognize talent and stick with as best you can.

Sorry for the rant, but I would appreciate the experts' insight...

Sterling's probably just looking for someone to split his hooker bill with. That's all this really is.

Guess we have to rename this thread to "Just when you thought the Clippers were the worst franchise"

+1

After giving away Haywood(you can argue that Howard replaces Butler somewhat) I don't think the Wizards can look down on anyone.

There's thinking we are the worst to now knowing for sure we are the worst. I'm convinced.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.
