Locke's trade idea
It came out today that Sacto would make Kevin Martin available.
He is proposing a Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer for Kevin Martin swap. Essentially its Brewer and cap space.
I personally would make this trade, but I dont know if all Sacto is trying to do is salary dump or not. It seems like that wouldnt be enough to get Martin.

Yeah, of course we do that trade as listed. Unfortunately, they would only bite if the NYK pick is on top of that.

Re: Locke's trade idea
I'm pretty sure they stated they aren't looking to trade Kevin Martin. Martin plays absolutely no defense, and he's the reason Sacramento has been putrid. Adding another scorer doesn't quite solve Utah's issues IMO.

How is it essentially Brewer and cap space? You're telling me Korver is nothing but cap space? Korver is a better shooter right now than Martin anyway...Why is everyone on here obsessed with making dumb trades up?The Sheik wrote:It came out today that Sacto would make Kevin Martin available.

Re: Locke's trade idea
Sac might do it with NYK pick. I dont think the Jazz can afford Martin. If taking on a contract why not Amare for Memo, Korver and Nyk pick. The Jazz then decide in off season to trade away Amare if he opts in, resign him, or let him leave. Extremely risky to do as losing NYK pick which is sort of valauable now for nothing but Amare will have value in sign in trade in off season as he will opt in. He could be the difference in getting by the lakers.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Martin has turned into a defensive liability, and quite the flopper on the offensive end. I have decided I really don't want him here in Utah. Plus he is fragile. If anything, Ronnie has been an ironman for us.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

10 million and up to 12 million for the next 5 years. Are you kidding? No way would I want him for that, or would the jazz consider that.

Re: Locke's trade idea
A few weeks back I thought Martin would be a good addition, but right now the Jazz are playing so well that I I don't know if this is the time to make any changes. I know, we don't know how long and if this high will last, but at this point I think its better to let things be.

Re: Locke's trade idea
I'd do that trade. I'm not terribly attached to either Korver or Brewer. Kmart may not be the 2 way player we'd like, but, he's a gifted scorer and I think would fit well in our offense.
I think his salary is reasonable for his production.
I think even including the NY pick might be doable if we were to have it top 3 protected.
I don't think Sacramento would do it under those conditions though. I doubt they are that desparate to dump him, and if anything would want us to take Udrih or Nocioni in the deal, and that probably kills any chance of it happening.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

The Jazz don't need a Kevin Martin type at the 2. There's not enough shots to go around already and he plays crap D. What they need is an Arron Afflalo type that can play good D and spot up for the 3. Closest thing we have to that is Matthews.

Lets see why...
Korver expires and why would a team like sacto resign him? However, a younger Brewer who is a restricted FA has some value for Sacto.
Also I didnt make this trade up, read the title.

Its actually 3 years at 36.5. It is a lot of money though. He would have to be a "over the top" player to make that kind of salary commitment. Im just not sure he is.

Re: Locke's trade idea
Given all the unknowns about the next CBA I'd be very surprised to see the Jazz trade an expiring contract for one that extends beyond the length of the current CBA, especially when that contract is >$10M per year.

Re: Locke's trade idea
I would do it no questions asked.
Face it, other than Deron the Jazz suck beyond the perimeter. Can you imagine getting a great scorer, in the starting line up?
Deron
Martin
AK
Boozer
Okur
You can't double down on anyone in that line up though everyone single one of them could demand it.
If the Jazz made this trade they'd win the chip this year.

Re: Locke's trade idea
it's interesting..
our stock on AK has gone way up since he's starting (least to me..), were as before it was pretty low and AK was in trade rumors.
King's stock of Martin way super high while he was injured...now he's back...and now their message board is looking for a big expiring and they think much less of him now.
I still think that CJ has not worked out for us, he's a good bench player but just chucks up random 3's. If we have to trade someone, my pick is CJ with Matthews playing as well as he is... after him Brewer.
Korver has value and it's frustrating watching a guy shoot 60% from the arc sit on the bench for CJ..but I don't think he's going to be traded, that would crush mass women in Utah.
10 days to go right?

Re: Locke's trade idea
Not to mention we already get lit up by scoring guards, I would hate to see what happens when we downgrade defensively from Brewer to Martin.
Also, hasnt anyone perhaps suspected that CJ is playing over a shootingwell Korver because it is CJ who is the one they are looking to trade?

Those are my thoughts. We know what we have in Korver and so does the rest of the league. CJ is more of a question mark so we throw him out there to show what he can do.

Re: Locke's trade idea
It's almost comical to know Locke thinks Sacramento wouldn't laugh the Jazz off the phone if that trade were proposed.
I've always known he's an idiot, but this makes me think he might seriously have some mental disabilities. Do they call it "special needs" these days?
