I'm surprised there was no thread on his shooting yesterday. Sounds like he died this morning. Absolutely horrible.

My thoughts from another board...
The first thing I said when I heard that he was shot in his femoral artery was, "he didn't bleed out?" More morbid than it sounds, I was pleasantly surprised that he was alive. Hope mounted throughout yesterday when doctors were encouraged by him responding to nurses orders, etc. Unfortunately it did not prove to be enough.
It's too bad regardless, but it's harder to handle considering he was a young man on a turn around who, by all accounts, had really started to become a leader for his teammates and had distanced himself from the trouble that haunted him earlier in his life. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I wish them the best.
It is indeed a terrible tragedy. Far too young to be taken from this world. A completely senseless crime...

What everyone just said, just horrible. I was a huge fan of Taylor's since his rookie year, the guy was a beast. I was excited to hear last night the doctors were cautiously optimistic because he had responded by squeezing the doctors hand.
So I wake up this morning and read he had died, it just sucks. They kept saying it was a robbery or burglary, but they said nothing was stolen? I hope they catch the pos who did this.

This is sad, after he made it through initially I totally thought he would survive. I mean when they got him to the hospital, They must have stitched him up and started pumping blood into him right away so I figured he was ok. They also never said anything about him dying and having to be revived so I thought his brain and everything would be fine since it sounds like he never went without oxygen flowing through his body for too long of a period. Then I go to bed last night and they said he was responding to commands so I thought he must be coming out of his coma that I figured his body went into due to the shock alone of losing that much blood. I just don't get how they couldn't save him in todays day and age after he survived the hardest part early on and they must have had his blood levels back to normal. It makes no sense to me medically from my knowledge of the injury even though my knowledge is limited.
What I wonder too is that someone broke into the house and then broke into the bedroom too where they were locked in supposedly. Combine that with nothing missing and the fact that the person didn't shoot the girlfriend and it leads me to believe there is a possibility that person had a vendetta against Sean and broke in to go after him specifically. Either that or Sean and his GF were quiet and he did have a machete and heard the guy coming to the bedroom so when he came in, Sean surprised him and the guy shot. That is possible too but for some reason the first scenario seems more plausible in my head cause they heard the guy break in to the house and then the guy broke into the room. If I had a machete and my daughter was in the house, I would leave my bedroom quick to find the guy to make sure my kid is ok. So I have to think the guy broke into the house and went straight for the bedroom. Of course this is all just guessing since the story is always fuzzy early on but damn it is tragic.

Based on what you wrote, I'm guessing that you understand that the arteries carry blood to-and-from the brain, throughout the body, and provide it oxygen.
From my understanding, the arteries in the legs are of critical importance because of the muscle mass in the area. They work extra hard in those areas, and you can only imagine how much harder they work in the case of a well-built, muscular football player like Taylor. But our heart pumps more blood through the body per couple of minutes (the exact time eludes me) than the body even holds in total. In short, it circulates fast. This is why I was so surprised that he didn't bleed out. Pleasantly surprised, as I said. You probably had the same feelings again based upon what you wrote above.
Because of this, I would think that - miraculously - the cause of his death was not from him bleeding out. Like you, I was hopeful after this realization.
While I'm no expert (it would be great if midranger could chime in on this), my guess would be that he did in fact go too long without oxygen. If I had to make my guess, it would be that his death was a direct cause of lack-of oxygen to the brain (cause of the coma), stemming from the fact that he lost too much blood too quickly. I'm guessing that, despite their best efforts to get a sufficient amount of blood back into his body, it was unfortunately probably too little too late for him. The squeezing of the nurse's hand was encouraging, but comas are strange enigmas.
That's my attempt at playing Doctor. I am not one, but health issues always have interested me. No doubt I am likely overlooking things, not knowing things, etc. I don't at all claim to be an expert in diagnosis or even moderately proficient. That's just my best guess. Please, no one take my "report" too seriously. Just my train of thought right now before hearing official word...

My first thoughts would be, if I'm the guy who did this, I would hope the cops get to me before Taylors boys do.
They didnt take anything either time though. It seems like this wasnt a robbery at all but more of a planned hit. It sounds like he changed his life when his daughter was born, but the problems he used to have unfortunately arent solved that easily. I say that meaning the people that he wronged or the crowd he ran with didnt change their ways.

You're most likely correct that his death was a sequelae of losing so much blood at the scene. The femoral artery is a very large artery, it's teh one that you can feel in your groin and extends to behind the knee as the popliteal. It would bleed A LOT if not properly compressed or tied off, see Black Hawk Down.
Anyway, when the body's blood volume/pressure is too low to perfuse the vital organs, the condition is called shock. That is all shock is. When you bleed and bleed, your type of shock is called hypovolemic shock.
The obvious organs that need constant perfusion are the brain, the kidneys, and the heart, as well as the gut and the liver. No doubt he suffered a neurologic hit from a low flow state. However, if I had to guess his cause of death, I'd think it's related to acute renal failure with some involvement of the other systems. You don't need your brain to live (it's true), but you do need the other stuff.
I really don't know much of anything about his case, as I've just heard snippets on Sportscenter. But that's my best guess.
