Chemistry with Ellis
Ok this has been brushed upon in other threads but I'm curious to know what the consensus is....
Obviously Monta Ellis is an extremely gifted offensive player and for that alone I'm interested in what he could bring to this team. I also don't know how plausible/implausible it is that we actually get him, I like to defer that stuff to the trade-ophiles. So just consider this a hypothetical.
What kind of on court chemistry would this team have with a starting 5 of Rondo, Ellis, Pierce, KG and Perk? Does Ellis really need the ball in his hands a lot to be effective, or would/could he adapt to more of a team philosophy? Is he really a poor defender or is it more the system he plays in? I could see a problem with the lack of size in the backcourt defensively, but how big of a problem would it really create? How much of a difference overall would Monta make vs. Ray Allen for the remainder of the season?
thoughts?

Re: Chemistry with Ellis
Two stats to look at for Ellis: Points Per Shot and Assist/TO Ratio.
For such an efficient offensive player, he isn't that efficient.
Better than Ray? Probably, but the guy is a total statpadder.

Thing that worries me about Ellis.....and I like him....is size......with a back court of Ellis/Rondo....we have no size to switch to big 2/3's that PP is guarding (e.g. Lebron)....Ray Ray at least has size, so on a switch can size up with the bigger 2's and 3's when PP switches or gets lost on D.....our help D goes down

Re: Chemistry with Ellis
Ellis is like a souped-up Jamal Crawford. Put him in a 6th man role, let him speed the game up and huck stuff at the rim and he's very dangerous. Stick him as an undersized 2-guard in a defense 1st line-up where he'd have to spend as much time off-ball as on, and I think he'd be unhappy and ineffective.

Absolutely.
Kid would be an epic 6th man, but you'd have to have a perfectly compatible starting 5 to get away with starting him at the 2.

Ray ray is aged fading..expiring. He can barely guard a lamp more than 20 min. Ellis + Rondo would be a BLUR....not that the other 3 guys can catch up....
Anyhow...Monta's been a real soldier for GSW. They don't want to trade him for GOOD stuff...which Boston does not intend to offer.
You really have NO CLUE about Ellis as a player. He's adaptable. Happy to do whatever he can. Trying to play with HALF a team kind of throws those oddball "stats" in the can. He wants to stay a Warrior. Nellie thinks he's amazing. Riley says he's not getting traded. Think what you like...but it's just theoretical.
CENSORED... No comment.

Rem, it is you who has no clue. Despite the public statements to the contrary, your organization is actually very interested in moving him. Yeah, they will want value back, but they are much higher on Curry and (correctly) do not think highly of Monta's diva act and selfish play.
Monta will not be on your team in a year. You will see.

Monta is 100000x better than Jamal Crawford. Put him on a real team and he becomes much better. As for being a stat padder, on a crappy team like the Warriors, someone has to get the stats.

Re: Chemistry with Ellis
If we got Ellis. I think he would be at his best playing starter minutes coming off the bench. I actually think while undersized he would be a good fit. Paul Pierce as he gets old is becoming more perimeter oriented.
If we made this trade, I would start Tony Allen but play him bench minutes. Just so you can have Monta on the floor whenever Rondo is on the bench. giving Monta 10-15 minutes a game when he can be the primary ball handler/bench spark. I think the best guy would be Kevin Martin but the kings have rich owners and a good gm so thats not happening.

Re: Chemistry with Ellis
He's a bit too ball dominant and I'd be concerned over his inability to stretch the floor with Rondo in the starting lineup. As it's been said, he'd be a perfect sixth man. In any deal with GSW, I'd like to get Magette back as well, so we can start him and bring Ellis off the bench.
Highly doubt any of this would happen though.

Off the bench? If we had Ellis he would be championed around here as the best player on the team in short order. You guys are really understimating him.. Of course this is the same crew that didn't want to trade Al Jefferson for Garnett...

Ray (possibly something on top) for Monta and Maggette would give them a clean slate to make some moves this summer.

If he were on the team, he'd be the second best scorer. Don't let GSW's stat padding system fool you. Even past that, he's an undersized 2. I'd bring him off the bench, but still give him 36 minutes per game or so. I just don't like how he fits with the starting lineup.

Re: Chemistry with Ellis
My biggest fear with Ellis would be how he would play off the ball. That said he's 24 and can still alter his game. With better players around him and defenses not focusing all their attention on him I think you would see his efficiency go up.
I think a lot of criticism's are being exagerated. Ellis is 6-3 while Ray is 6-5 but at this stage in their career's Ellis has a lot more lateral quickness than Ray. I think defensively it would be a wash. Floor spacing is another issue. TA / Ray has been our wing combo with Pierce hurt and the offense hasn't totally stalled because TA and Rondo's defenders are sagging into the paint. Ellis is a much better and more respected shooter than TA. I think we'd be fine.

Re: Chemistry with Ellis
One thing that really needs to be understood about Monta is that he is one of the dumbest motherf---ers alive. Westbrook almost got a triple-double with STEALS last night just jumping in front of Ellis' passes. Athletically, yeah... better than Ray. The guy excels in iso ball with his quickness yet doesn't have the first clue about how to play as part of a team. Don Nelson doesn't even have them run plays. It's just Monta and Maggette taking turns going one-on-one, so that they can tank and puff up those two's trade value with inflated stats.
Monta kinda reminds me of Ricky Davis, to be honest. All stats and athleticism, nothing upstairs. Watch 10 seconds of one of his interviews and get back to me on how much we need this guy to be the savior.
