yea, you re right. for some reason i thought they would pick the second placed team in the conference since the champion is taken by NC.

No, the tiebreaker is by overall record I think and Illinois is 9-3 overall while Michigan is 8-4.

nope. tiebreaker is head to head for big 10. thats why week ago OSU and Michigan played for conference championship even though OSU s overall record was way better.

tiebreaker? for 2nd place? to decide a bcs at large berth? huh? at large berths are given out to eligible teams based on whatever the bowls feel like basing it on. you could be 5th in your conference but if you're eligible and a bcs bowl wants you, you're in and teams #2-4 are out.

The Rose Bowl is very interested in getting an SEC team

umm, since when? every time i've heard them talk about it, the rose bowl people are adamant about wanting pac10 vs big11. is this just more sec homer talk or has someone on the rose committee actually said something about wanting an sec team over a traditional matchup?

I don't have the article on hand, but the CEO of the Rose Bowl mentioned that Georgia was a likely candidate. Especially since they pre-sold like 45,000 tickets with the possibility of LSU playing in the Rose Bowl last year. He said that they give the advantage to the Big Ten/Pac-10 match-up, but they don't have to sacrifice a great game.

They may not pick Georgia, but they realize that it would be a good move on their part.

The conference tie ins are as follows:

Rose Bowl - Big 10 vs. Pac-10.
Fiesta Bowl - Big 12.
Orange Bowl - ACC.
Sugar Bowl - SEC.

Unless Missouri or West Virginia loses, we are looking at a USC/Ohio State Rose Bowl. That then means that the Fiesta, who lost their tie in, would pick first. I would then guess they would take UGA against maybe Kansas?

Rose Bowl - Ohio State v.s. USC
Fiesta Bowl - Big 12.
Orange Bowl - Virginia Tech v.s.
Sugar Bowl - LSU v.s.
National Championship - Missouri v.s. West Virginia

That is what it would look if it ended now and VT and LSU wins (I think). Fiesta lost their tie in, Big 12 champ, to the national championship, so they pick first. After them I think it is the Orange bowl.

Here are ESPN's bowl predictions: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/stor ... jections13

They seem to like the chances of a UGA/USC match up as well.

I can't wait for the Army/Navy game actually. Its usually a decent football game, and plus with the upset trend this season, don't be surprised if Army takes down the Midshipmen.

One things for sure though, there will be some heavily watered eyes in my house at the end of the game when the fight songs are sung, there always are.

^Mark Schlabach originally penciled in USC vs. Illinois but seems to change his mind. USC vs. Georgia is a more intriguing matchup though.

Remember, no more than 2 teams per conference can make a BCS bowl game.

At cnnsi.com, Stewart Mandel is picking #1 Missouri over Oklahoma as his "Upset Special." I like his sense of humor.

yea they're favored by like a field goal, id expect that crowd tomorrow to be very pro OU too, since there are plenty of OU fans in texas and they travel well.

you can actually still get tickets but i dont have enough cash or want to drive 4-5 hours to go see the game

I'm not 100%, but I think the reasoning they give is academics.

edit: also, the big ten isn't divided up into divisions like the other conferences. and they probably don't want to screw their #2 team out of a BCS game.

The Big Ten schools want to be done with football before Thanksgiving break. Note that most of their teams played in what gets called Week 1, whereas a lot of Pac-10 and ACC teams did not. The Big Ten also does not insert a bye week into the middle of the conference schedule like the Pac-10 or SEC. There is talk about changing that though, giving everyone a week off during the traditional mid-terms time.

Something else to consider is weather; I'm going to have to drive home from the MAC title game later today in a winter storm warning. The Big Ten schools don't like seeing empty seats, and when it's 38 degrees, raining, and 25 MPH winds (welcome to November in the Great Lakes!), people tend to not show up en masse to sit for 3.5 hours to watch football games. Except Ohio State-Michigan.

Really need Tennessee to beat LSU today. It's rare that I want Tenn to win, but this is one of those days, because I feel LSU will jump over UGA if they win.

You obviously aren't aware of the fact that the Ducks will be sending a highly depleted offense against one of the nation's best defenses today. They will be lucky to sniff the red zone, let alone put up 28.

The Beaves will do to the Ducks what they did to the Cougars a couple of weeks ago.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.
