Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
I'm considering hitting MM later on tonight just to checkout what's happening. The paper listed that AI, Rudy, and Penny will be judges tonight for the dunk contest. Rapper Yo Gotti will introduce the players as well. Also fans can get autographs from the Tigers while they are in attendence. Sounds like it will be fun.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
Memphis Madness was fun tonight. My sis and I came thru the doors along ith the mass of ppl. Grabbed the U of M bball posters of both teams. Found some front row seats on ground level and parked ourselves in them. The scrimmage games of both men and ladies bball teams were solid to say the least. 3 point shooting contest was good. Roburt Sallie still cold from beyond the arc. That's a good thing for a 3 point specialist. Will Coleman and Elliot Williams cut up in the dunk contest. AI Rudy and Penny were da judges on hand. Will Coleman took it home with the win vs. Williams in the second and final round and AI gave the guy a 98 a crazy joke. Seriously though, on Coleman's last dunk, all 3 judges gave 10s al across the board. It was a good turnout and at full capacity that some ppl had to be turned away due to FEF being that packed.

I love how some say that Memphis fans only went to games because we were good and had Calipari. New coach, new team, same turnouts.
I'm more excited for the next coming years than I have ever been under Calipari.

Considering the state of the team right now. I believe they may win no more than 10 to 12 games. We're practically in the rebuilding stages for the first time in a long time.

Considering the outcome of the game last night, barring major injuries - I'm thinking you're waaay wrong

There are no moral victories - that was a helluva an effort though. Wish the Grizz played that hard on defense.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
Unbelievable - Memphis almost tops #1 Kansas and can't crack the top 25. AP Poll = pathetic...

Had they beat Kansas AP probably wouldn't rank them. Saying the win was a fluke all that denial crap.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
I know this is a hoops thread - but congrats to the Tigers for hiring Larry Porter. IMO this was about the best hire that RC could have hoped for. Former player, assistant head coach for major SEC program and recognized as national recruiter of the year. As much of a dunderhead as Johnson is, this could be a second great hire this year.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
The move to get Porter needs to be proven great for the program to rebound from the bottomless pit they been under since DW left the program a few yrs ago. Porter is known for his recruiting prowess and that is most important. Although he used to coach @ my former HS Wooddale yrs ago, I don't know how how good of an Xs' and Os' he really is. Hopefully he will be goood enough to help turn this program around for the better. And that the fans and the city can get behind Porter and help support the team.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
Memphis has played well given how inexperienced their team is. They are only going to get better as the year goes on. Sure, a lot of their guys are juniors and seniors, but most did not have such a huge role on the team a year ago. Take, for example, Willie Kemp, who is getting a good deal of time and producing fairly well. Then you have incoming star transfer Elliot Williams to go along with JUCO transfer Will Coleman. And finally, it looks like Henderson Niles has slimmed down. Before this year, he only was seen in garbage time. So, this squad should be good by year's end and could possibly make another trip to the NCAA tournament.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
Got a question to ask. Are the Tigers relying on Elliot Williams a bit too much? Think about it. W/o his presence on the team, the Tigers are struggling horribly. The losses this year like Syracuse, Kansas, UT Knox, are to me expected losses b/c they don't have the neccessary players to matchup to those teams. Losses like UMASS, UTEP, and SMU really exposes multiple chinks in their armor. Which to the obvious they have a long way to go before they can get back to the big stage.

Absolutely SD. Will Coleman has been a bit of a disappointment too. However, having Coleman back next season won't be a bad thing...

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
My suggestion for the Tigers is to get some beef at the PF and C positions. Truth be told it's been a long time since they had efficient players from that position like Lorenzen Wright, David Vaughn, and Kelly Wise. It's all been about the guards. Can the Tigers make it about the frontcourt as well?

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
In the immediate future, Memphis has some serious talent at the guards as you probably know. I watched Joe Jackson play in person and he is NBA quick. He may be out of control at times, but he has physical gifts that cannot be taught. Plus, he has ice in his veins in late game situations.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
You ain't lying about JJ. The guy can flat out play like something fierce. I saw a couple of games of Joe playing during the past year. Well rounded on offense and can crank it up in a hurry. The opponent can be the best defender on the team and JJ can find a way to beat him off the dribble or shoot over him. While his offense is great, his defense to me will be a concern particularity if he draws a taller and muscular type of PG who could be as good as he is.

Re: MEM TIGER THREAD
With Garcia, I'm not so sure what they may get out of him. He seems like he lacks some things on the court like the fundamentals for example. Along with the fact that he has missed much of the season.
