Official Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by Rich Rane » Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:25 am

With our elimination to the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game, our outlook to the offseason for our Road To Superbowl XLV begins now. Feel free to discuss the Pro Bowl/Superbowl XLIV and ideas for our offseason (including the upcoming draft) here. Thank you.

I want the Colts to win the Superbowl, just to stamp his authority on being the greatest QB ever.

Pro Bowl is pointless, let's be honest

And I hope we go after an edge rusher and a number 2 corner this off-season. I kinda want us to trade up to try and draft Joe Haden, but I'm just being too greedy. Imagine him and Revis though?!

Keep in mind according to the new rules for an "uncapped" season, we can't sign a FA unless we lose one and we could only sign one if it's the same value of the FA we lost.

not bad.. thejets were really hampered by being one of the final 4 teams this year.... a lot of rules hampering them from signing free agents.. wow, this is a nice move... two young cornerbacks.. revis the stud, cromartie with potential to be one..

Yep...terrific move by the Jets. Basically this years Thomas Jones move. Tannenbaum really doing his job.

Cromartie's best skill is ball hawking and with Revis on the other side he'll get all the chances in the world to repeat his 10 interceptions and pro bowl appearance 2007 season.

Looks like there might be a Cromartie Cove on the other side of Revis Island.

Sure Cro let Shonn Greene steam roll him and he's probably softer than Sherry Rhodes herself...but in Rex's scheme, his playmaking skills and solid man coverage will hope to light a fire under him. He's no worse that Lito was last year, and at 26, is entering his prime.

Tanny has done an excellent job since taking over. Filling our corner need with Cro gives us options going into the draft to trade down from the 1st round, or select the BPA. Not to mention the kid is still on a pretty cheap deal and is a RFA after next season.

With the 30th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the NY Jets select Dermaryius Thomas, WR from Georgia Tech.

Golden Tate?

IMHO Tate is fools gold. He's putting up great numbers in the 40 but he's also been dropping a lot of passes. He's also just 5'10" and not an ideal target IMHO for Sanchez. I'd rather go with the 6'3" 225lb Thomas who has better hands, great body control and who many believe can be a star receiver in the NFL. And Thomas was apparently officially timed at 4.39 in the 40 during the season before he broke his foot so he's no slouch when it comes to speed.

Here's a video of Thomas. Big athletic player that can go up and get the ball above corners (great hands) and who can knock down a tackler or shed a blocker for additional yards after initial contact with the defensive player after the catch...as his 25.1 yards per reception this past season would attest. The kid is coming off only his sophmore season and is currently projected as a 2nd round pick (due in part to the broken foot)...this could be the jets chance to get a steal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMK59U6nCuw

Line the 6'3" Thomas on the opposite side of the 6'3" Braylon Edwards and it'll cause the opposing corners fits in coverage and give Sanchez plenty of easy to hit targets...especially in the red zone. Would be like what the Lions have out there for Stafford.

Tate is basically having a Vernon Gholston-like combine.
