As of right now, would you deal Allen for Martin?

Since it seems like most of us have different perspectives on this trade, I was wondering how many of you, if in Danny's shoes, would deal Allen for Martin.

I am as a big a supporter of Ray as there is and I hate to deal him away like this but this team has got to find some offense and it is more than 10 ppg off the bench. This is the guy.

Yes, I think it's a no brainer. Kevin Martin is basically Ray Allen (in terms of being a shooter, able to play off ball and a real good fit with this team) except he's 27 years old and he gets to the line a ton.

unless dwayne wade is walking thru that door, I think Martin is the best fit to play next to Rondo for 40 mpg.

Did we seriously need another thread on this one rumor? Could we please get a merge or Ray Allen trade thread going, PLEASE?!

Too injury prone. I voted no, but I wouldn't be against it. I'd just pray everyday he doesn't get hurt, and then get rid of him when his contract is up unless he plays every single game for us for the next three years.

I'm with a few others here, I'd do the trade if it was the best available offer, I'd just prefer to see some of the other rumored deals go through more than I'd like to see this one.

Order of preference, if available, considering a two year window:
1. Trade Ray for Iggy (Dalembert yes, Brand not worth it)
2. Trade Ray for Martin
3. Don't trade Ray and re-sign him to a contract at MLE type money
4. Trade Ray for Hinrich and Salmons
5. Get a root canal with Ray Allen performing the surgery
6. Trade Ray for Rip Hamilton and other Piston undesireables
7. Don't trade Ray and re-sign him to a $9mm or more per season contract
8. Don't trade Ray and let him walk in the offseason
Baylor is Brat.

but I'd put the Salmons/Hinrich one after that.

Personally, yes I'd do the trade. I'm almost 100% sure I'm ready to say we will not win a championship, even if there are a few "tweaks" made. We need a new "star". Kevin Martin has never been in a situation like he would be in Boston. I think we could expect great things from him with such talented players around him.

A big NO and I'm not ashamed to say it. I personally think trading any of the starting five means the Celtics are done for the season as far as winning a championship this year.

How many championship teams break up their core with 30 games to go in the season?

They have a chance to win the championship, let it run it's course.

I think the trade is good for both teams.

He would make them better short term this year and longer term going forward. Is chemistry the reason for your comment because if you think Ray Allen is better than Kevin Martin your out of your mind.

NO. NO. NO. Ray is the only player on our roster who can dribble pass AND shoot. If we trade Ray for just a shooter, (assuming Martin is even healthy) we would HAVE to get decent point guard help ASAP AND keep a decent defensive SG on the roster....in fact, if we did this trade, we would NOT even win the Division.

I still don't see why Sacto would dump their best player for an expiring.

I think if you can trade Ray for a star quality guy like Martin or Iggy, who are arguably better than Ray currently; you have to do it. It would be really sad though.

For a younger slight downgrade like J-Rich, you think about it.

For a couple of backups like Hinrich/Salmons, no way.

Also; if you make the deal, you try throwing the MLE at Ray next summer. I doubt anyone wants to give him more, although there will be teams with cap space to burn.

He's younger, and that is big right now considering the roster. Still, Ray is pretty important to this team when he is on his game. The only way I see them reasonably trading him for another player is if they think they can win a championship after the trade. Even if it were just a straight trade-- Allen for Martin-- I can't envision the Celtics winning a championship based on that alone... So on that, I vote no without any disrespect to Martin. When you lose Ray to this team, you're not just losing a shooter/scorer, you're losing someone that can respectably defend, bring the ball up the floor, and provide leadership in the locker room among other intangibles.... It's a bit silly to say, but since I have seen Ray win a ring with this team, I'm just not on board until I see what Martin could do in a Celtic's uniform (and all this is hypothetical in the first place).

No, Martin is absolute trash on D and Ray Allen is still a good player. By regularized adjusted +/- (taken over the last 3 seasons) Martin's defense ranks 386th out of 387 qualified players. This is probably the best available stat for the D. If Martin was a merely bad I think you could make a hand-wavy argument about why the numbers are off, but when he is that far down I think it's pretty hard to do that.
