MN Incoming Players
Luol Deng - 4
Tyrus Thomas - 0
MN Outgoing Players
Mark Blount - 0
Ryan Gomes - 3
Ramon Sessions - 3
Yes, Deng chews up some cap space over and above the contracts of Sessins and Gomes, but we need some defensive help. Ty Thomas is expiring, and if we don't want to keep him he's gone. Deng is also a decent rebounder, and due to the unlikelyness of Al and Love playing alot at the same time in the future, we need better rebounding alternatives on the floor with them.
PG=Rubio/Flynn
SG=Brewer/Turner
SF=Deng/Draft pick
PF=Al/Love

Pass. The draft is too deep with SF's to take on Deng's contract.

Its not unreasonable, but I think that when it comes to good contracts, one of these things is not like the others.

Re: MN-Chicago Deep Dish
At some point we MUST acquire some experienced players we can roll with ... Continuing to put so much reliance on the draft is exactly what this trade is working to avoid.
We can't keep asusming we have 3 more years to let a mid-round SF develop. That thinking could go on for ever and is exactly what Al Jefferson has been very vocal about in terms of rebuilding. At some point, we need to draw the line. Now, that's not saying Deng is that player - he's just an example, but he is a quality player being overpaid like tons of others.
Other options (Gay, Martin) have been ripped on due to lack of defense ... I'm not sure who we think we are going to get that is an all-around type player ... and could be had. This may seem like "settling" to others, but I feel it's potentially an upgrade on both ends of the floor. We could try drafting a mid-rounder and risk him playing in the CBA...
Oh well ...

This. I want to wait until we have an idea of where we stand in the draft before we make any significant moves.

I agree, no Deng, draft a SF or take a crack at Rudy G in free agency.

Re: MN-Chicago Deep Dish
I'm warming up to Deng right now. I think I might pull the trigger. But let's not fool ourselves, here's his next 4 years:
2010- 11.4 mil
2011- 12.3 mil
2012- 13.3 mil
2013- 14.3 mil
If Deng was a free agent, would he get that much money? I don't think so. It's not a terrible idea to overpay a bit for more talent though. I would take Deng over Iggy any day.

I don't want any part of Deng. I don't really like Iggy, either. Gay or Wes Johnson.
