Who's the best PF in the game?
Dirk, Bosh? maybe one of them...but I'll take TDunc. I have him on my fantasy squad he is just killing it at 34 years of age. We all know he's all about winning, and arguably the best PF of all time...
He gets a career high in rebounds last night, 27, are you kidding me? What was he playing pepper? that's phenominal...He's finally hitting his throws now as well...Atta boy TDunc!

To answer the OP, most of us would say TD. You'd get a more varied (and cries of "he's a 5, not a 4!!!") response on the General Board.
Thanks for the props though. I thought a Laker fan would claim that Gasol is the best PF.

Ofcourse we'll say TD. But other than TD, I still feel that KG (when healthy) is the next best PF in the game. Bosh and Dirk is awesome defensively, but he's not a 2 way player KG and TD is.

KG? Maybe two years ago. Definitely not now. I'd take Dirk over him any day of the week.

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
Right now? That's tough. There are guys like Bosh, Amare, Dirk that are really, really good. They are all probably better than Duncan at pure scoring, but I think Duncan is a smarter and more experienced player and better defensively. What I think separates Duncan from the rest of the power forwards playing right now is his will to win which is proven by his multiple championships and incredible team success since he arrived in the league.
In short; Tim Duncan is the best power forward in the NBA right now (and has been for the past decade or so).

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
Defensively there's no better PF in the league than Duncan but offensively Dirk and Bosh are definitely better than Bosh. Right now I wouldn't say that TD is the best PF in the game, he's definitely lost a step so i'd have to go with Dirk or Bosh.

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
Depends what you're talking about. If you're talking about a PF to build a team around, of course you'll go the Bosh or Dirk route. They're both younger players. But in terms of a guy leading a team in the playoffs and being a threat on both ends of the floor when you need him to be, I still got to go with TD.
Semi-OT: I can't believe I'm saying this, but Zach Randolph would be up there for me, right there with Bosh as far as I'm concerned. He's spent his entire pro-career on train-wreck teams, and now we're seeing what he can do on a good young team. Along with Al Jefferson, he might be the most underrated big man in the NBA.

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
Based on the 2009-2010 season, the battle is a two horse race between TD and CB.
Dirk has never been any good defensively and now he's looking even slower. KG has slowed down so much that scrubs are beating him off the bounce - and he's not scoring the way he did two years ago.
TD is a more well rounded player than CB, but he's one of the most well rounded in history.
If people say Bosh doesn't play D - they aren't watching many TOR games. His D has picked up big time - both on and off ball.

As much as I hate Dirk he's the one I would want holding the ball at the end of a game. TD is a stud on the defensive end and is looking 5 yrs younger. Dirk has really come a long way. Leading the Mavs to the 2nd spot in the west can't overlook that.

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
Dirk has always been criticized for his lack of post up offence. Bosh has that from both blocks. The only thing Dirk has on Bosh offensively is the 3Ball, which Bosh CAN shoot, but doesn't because he has Bargnani beside him bombing away.

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
I'd say you couldn't go wrong with Chris Bosh, or Dirk Nowitski even Tim Duncan. KG doesn't seem the same as did in Minnesota or his 1st year in Boston. That injury really messed him up last season.

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
It's tough to look at Duncan as a PF when he routinely plays with "centers" that are perimeter shooters and act like tall SFs. McDyess, who's started about half of the games this season, has spent more time shooting from the mid-range zones (especially the wing and straightaway) than he's spent in the post or anywhere near the rim. He's taking 72 shots at the rim and an additional 53 shots in the low post, whereas he's taken about 260 shots from the mid-range areas.
Ratliff, when he plays, makes Tim more of a PF, but he's started 3 games, played in only 21 and is playing less than 9 mpg. Duncan may still be listed at PF, but he's very much a center.
I'd be inclined to say he's the best center in the league at the moment, even if he's not as prolific a rebounder as Dwight, nor as dominant in terms of field goal efficiency or drawing fouls. He's a lot more reliable as an isolation scorer, better at the line, a way better passer, etc. His current orpg average is the highest its been since 03-04, he's posting a four-year high in FG%, the second-best TOV% of his career, best ORTG of his career by far, best PTS36 since 04-05 despite lowest usage since his rookie year... blah blah. Y'all know Tim's awesome, it's his team board. I boggle, but you watch him more regularly.
But he's so very much not a PF, it's not even funny. The best PF is between Dirk and Bosh.
Tim, though, is best-in-class at whatever position at which you choose to place him. He's better than Dirk or Bosh and for my money, he's still better than Dwight. Maybe not in terms of building around long-term, of course, but certainly if we're talking about one season, this season. He's still that good. He's "only" a 19/11/3 player posting just under 2 bpg, so he's not statistically as productive as Dwight, but I'd take him, for a single season, over Howard.
*shrugs*
PHENOMENAL player. Top 10, all-time.

Re: Who's the best PF in the game?
Good assessment. People make way too much of his position, and the way people suggest he moved to PF purely to considered on of the all-timers at the position is just laughable. He was drafted to a team that was set at the 5, so he started at the 4. If he were drafted to just about any other team, he'd of been a 5 and that would've been it.

I think Duncan is a little priss about his position, don't get me wrong. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and lays eggs, it's a frikkin' duck. With Tim, you replace "duck" with "center."
But whatever, it doesn't change what he does. He doesn't play differently in order to take that consideration, so it's all academic. Robinson was always basically Chris Bosh with less range on offense, all about face-ups and athleticism versus power and backdowns, so they mixed well. And D-Rob certainly defended like a center. Anyway, it's not super-important, because Duncan's so awesome.

At least in highschool it was easier, point, swing, and post players...
In the NBA you can more or less label players as points, swings, faceup or post players...
What does Duncan does? I say he is pretty balanced between faceup and post up.
Robinson on the other hand was a pure face up player...
